Bibliometric analysis of the scientific production of the Cuban Journal of Medicinal Plants

ABSTRACT

Introduction:

The Cuban Journal of Medicinal Plants is a benchmark in the medical field due to the subject it addresses.

Objective:

Carry out a bibliometric analysis of the scientific production of the Cuban Journal of Medicinal Plants between 2014 and 2021.

Methods:

Bibliometric, descriptive and cross-sectional study that included all the publications of the Cuban Journal of Medicinal Plants on the Open Journal Access platform between 2014 and 2021. The EndNote X8 bibliographic reference manager was used to retrieve metadata from each selected article, and the VosViewer V.1.6.18 software for the development of collaboration networks. The metrics registered in the RCPM platform and the Scopus database were used.

Results:

The most productive years were 2014 and 2018 with 51 and 45 articles. A predominance of original articles was found (84.13%). The original article predominated in the typology of authorship (84.13%). The article A natural alternative for the treatment of COVID-19 had the highest number of downloads (20,337), while the most cited in Scopus (43) corresponded to Antimicrobial activity of an 80% fluid extract of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (copal). The collaboration network between authors showed Reguina M, as the author with the highest degree of collaboration.

Conclusions:

The production of scientific articles in the Cuban Journal of Medicinal Plants shows a stable pattern. The metric indicators related to the production of original articles are comparable to those of other high-impact journals;sample of the quality in editorial work. © 2022, Editorial Ciencias Medicas.
