ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the critical "discontents” of capitalism and global neoliberalism, highlighting the ecological damage, natural disasters, socio-political problems, and health pandemics that have resulted from its rapid growth, and been exacerbated further by COVID-19 where further changes in social, political, cultural, and economic life have created more social problems and dislocations. Social work needs a stronger collective voice in confronting environmental destruction and the impact of COVID-19, to address social issues and problems, protect life and the environment in which all species live. Critical green social work, in focusing on challenging humanism and its destructive elements, offers a potent vision and practice for the future. A future that will face and respond to the impact of climate change, environmental destruction, and the COVID-19 pandemic through advocacy, community action, and the principles of green social work. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
