Clinical aspects of the menopausal syndrome in a sample of Saudi women

A study of menopausal syndrome in a sample of Saudi females in Riyadh area was conducted and comprised 153 women. The age distribution of interviewed women at menarche was 14.34 +/- l.48 years. The men age at marriage was 18.97 +/- 3.4 years. The average period elapsing between marraige and menopause can be termed the net reproductive period and was found to be 32.74 The period elapsing between menrche and menopause can be termed the total reproductive period and was found to be 37.36 years. As regards symptoms and signs, it was found that [hot flushes] affected 88.5% of the total menopausal women in the sample. The opinion of 22.2% of menopausal women as regards the causes of the menopause was "affected by prolonged or chronic disease". Only 19.6% think that the menopause is a natural or age consequence
