Objetivo:

O propósito deste artigo foi identificar as dificuldades de compreensão inerentes ao termo Transtorno de Déficit de Atenção/Hi-peratividade para a língua portuguesa do Brasil, e propor algumas modificações.

Método:

Pesquisa bibliográfica histórica, identificando os termos ado-tados na nomeação deste quadro, os referenciais teóricos utilizados e o raciocínio adotado para as suas diferentes denominações.Resultados e Discussão Foram identificados três aspectos que com-prometem a precisão da compreensão - a utilização da palavra “déficit”, o emprego dos termos “transtorno” e “déficit” e a associação dos termos “desatenção” e “hiperatividade” na nomeação empregada para os sub-tipos.

Conclusão:

Apresentam-se as propostas de se substituir, na denomina-ção atualmente utilizada, a palavra “déficit” por “direcionamento” e de alterar a forma de apresentação dos subtipos, além disso, fundamenta-se esta sugestão.Palavras-chave Transtorno; Atenção; Hiperatividade; Transtorno da falta de atenção com hiperatividade(AU).

Objective:

The objective of this article was to identify the inherent di-fficulties of understanding the term Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Di-sorder in Brazilian Portuguese besides proposing some modifications to it.

Method:

We found three aspects that compromise the precision of the understanding of the term - the use of the word “defi-cit”, as well as the terms “disorders” and “deficit” and the association of the terms “inattention” and “hyperactivity” with the denomination used for the subtypes.

Conclusion:

We propose to substitute the word Deficit for Direction, in the denomination currently used and to modify the way the subtypes are presented, providing theoretical support for these suggestions. Key words Attention...
