Recuperação funcional de dois cães com fratura e luxação vertebraltorácica caudal com 100% de deslocamento do canal vertebra / Functional recovery of two dogs with caudal thoracic vertebrae fracture and luxation with 100% dislocation of the vertebral canal
The objective was to report the occurrence of functional recovery of two dogs with caudal thoracic vertebral fractureand luxation with 100% displacement of the spinal canal that had paraplegia and intact deep pain perceptionin the hindlimbs and tail. The first animal had an oblique fracture of the body of T13 and luxation betweenT12 - T13, with 100% displacement of the spinal canal, and hemilaminectomy and dorsal segmental stabilizationwere performed. The second animal had caudal epiphyseal fracture and luxation between T11 - T12, with 100%displacement of the spinal canal and underwent conservative treatment. The first dog showed full recovery ofvoluntary deambulation 30 days after presentation and the second animal had recovery of voluntary deambulationwith slight ataxia seven days after initiation of treatment. The recovered ambulation was accompaniedby nociception in the hindlimbs and tail. It was concluded that the isolated parameter of 100% displacementon radiographic imaging of the vertebral canal should not discourage the realization of therapy because, as theresults of this study show, there is the possibility of recovery of voluntary ambulation in these cases.(AU)
