Cathepsin S(
Cat S) is an important member of the
cysteine cathepsin protease family.It is a lysosomal
protease, which has been shown to be expressed in inflammatory conditions and
autoimmune diseases.It has more specific
roles such as
antigen presentation,
tissue repair,
cell proliferation and
apoptosis.It contributes to a variety of clinical
diseases.In this
review, we summarize the structure, characteristics and functions of
cathepsin S in
kidney and
rheumatic diseases.
