ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The object of this paper was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Mongolian medicine in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). This was completed by offering evidence to provide a clinical basis for the treatment of OA. We explored the mechanism of the sticking application of Mongolian medicine. METHOD: A total of 123 patients with OA diagnosed in the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University from January 2017 to December 2017 were enrolled. The clinical data of the patients were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into three groups according to the medication they were using at the time: The strapping group, the glucosamine hydrochloride group, and the Mongolian medicine group, with 41 patients in each group. The treatment indicators of the included patients 2 weeks after the treatment and 4 weeks after the treatment were fully recorded in our hospital. The levels of CGRP, TNF-α, MMP-3, VEGF, and IL-10 before and after treatment were measured by ELISA. The auxiliary diagnostic index was X-ray film. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the Mongolian medicine group improved the symptoms of pain, swelling, limited movement, and daily life quality of patients to different degrees. There was a significant decrease in the VAS score at each time point of the Mongolian medicine group (P < 0.05). tThe scores of bodily pain in SF-36 QOL were significantly higher in the Mongolian medicine group at different time points (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of MMP-3, TNF-α, VEGF, and CGRP in the Mongolian medicine group were significantly lower than those before the treatment (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Mongolian medicine can inhibit the expression of MMP-3, TNF-α, VEGF, and CGRP in serum, and up-regulate the trend of IL-10, alleviating the inflammatory reaction. It has a good curative effect in the treatment of OA patients. It is better than western medicine in pain, swelling, and improving bone and joint function index.

ABSTRACT

In today's booming society and in the age of science and technology, the diversification of food processing methods, the continuous extension of the food trade chain, and the potential hazard factors in the food production process all make people pay more and more attention to the establishment, development, and improvement of the hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) system. Only terminal control and post-processing supervision of food can guarantee the absolute safety of food. In the process of processing, it is particularly important to strictly identify and evaluate the food safety hazards. To better assist food production enterprises in establishing and implementing HACCP systems, to implement the primary responsibility of food safety, and to improve the theoretical level and practical application of HACCP system in China, an investigation of the current situation and development frontier of HACCP system in China was conducted. Based on the core journal database of China Knowledge Network, the Chinese Social Science Citation Index database, and the Chinese Science Citation Database as the literature search database platform, the study used the CiteSpace visual metrics software system to analyze 1,084 pieces of literature in the field of HACCP research, in order to track the dynamics and impact of research in this field by Chinese research institutions and major authors, and analyze the research hotspots in the field. It is important for further research on HACCP. The results of the study showed that (1) the number of publications in the field of HACCP in China increased steadily from 1992 to 2004 and then began to decrease; (2) the indexes of journals with more publications were more concentrated, and the journal Food Science published the most; (3) the indexes of major research institutions showed that the cultivation bases of the State Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicinal Materials in the Center of Chinese Medicine Resources of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Medicine, the Guangdong Institute of Occupational Diseases, the Nanchang University of Life Sciences, and the Guangdong Institute of Occupational Diseases were more concentrated. Prevention and Treatment Institute, School of Life Sciences of Nanchang University, China Aquatic Products Quality Certification Center, School of Food Science and Nutrition Engineering of China Agricultural University, and other research structures have the most publications and strong scientific research strength; (4) from the main author indicators, the research in the field of HACCP has formed a total of four more active research teams, involving Chinese herbal medicine, ecological planting, ecological agriculture, occupational disease prevention and treatment, light industry handicrafts, computer software and computer application, agricultural economy, and other research directions. The cooperation between the authors of each team is closer. It is suggested that in terms of food safety requirements, China should not only integrate the traditional supervision measures for food terminals and after the event but also reflect the role of food hazard analysis and assessment in the production process and comprehensively integrate the pre-production, production, and post-production management of food so that food can really be safe.

ABSTRACT

Background: Panax ginseng Meyer is one of the most valuable medicinal plants which is enriched in anti-microbe secondary metabolites and widely used in traditional medicine. Botrytis cinerea is a necrotrophic fungus that causes gray mold disease in a broad range of hosts. B. cinerea could overcome the ginseng defense and cause serious leaf and root diseases with unknown mechanism. Methods: We conducted simultaneous transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis of the host to investigate the defense response of ginseng affected by B. cinerea. The gene deletion and replacement were then performed to study the pathogenic gene in B. cinerea during ginseng - fungi interaction. Results: Upon B. cinerea infection, ginseng defense responses were switched from the activation to repression, thus the expression of many defense genes decreased and the biosynthesis of antifungal metabolites were reduced. Particularly, ginseng metabolites like kaempferol, quercetin and luteolin which could inhibit fungi growth were decreased after B. cinerea infection. B. cinerea quercetin dioxygenase (Qdo) involved in catalyzing flavonoids degradation and △BcQdo mutants showed increased substrates accumulation and reduced disease development. Conclusion: This work indicates the flavonoids play a role in ginseng defense and BcQdo involves in B. cinerea virulence towards the P. ginseng. B. cinerea promotes disease development in ginseng by suppressing of defense related genes expression and reduction of antifungal metabolites biosynthesis.

ABSTRACT

Botrytis cinerea is a necrotrophic microbe that causes gray mold disease in a broad range of hosts. In the present study, we conducted molecular microbiology and transcriptomic analyses of the host-B. cinerea interaction to investigate the plant defense response and fungal pathogenicity. Upon B. cinerea infection, plant defense responses changed from activation to repression; thus, the expression of many defense genes decreased in Arabidopsis thaliana. B. cinerea Zn(II)2Cys6 transcription factor BcSpd1 was involved in the suppression of plant defense as ΔBcSpd1 altered wild-type B05.10 virulence by recovering part of the defense responses at the early infection stage. BcSpd1 affected genes involved in the fungal sclerotium development, infection cushion formation, biosynthesis of melanin, and change in environmental pH values, which were reported to influence fungal virulence. Specifically, BcSpd1 bound to the promoter of the gene encoding quercetin dioxygenase (BcQdo) and positively affected the gene expression, which was involved in catalyzing antifungal flavonoid degradation. This study indicates BcSpd1 plays a key role in the necrotrophic microbe B. cinerea virulence toward plants by regulating pathogenicity-related compounds and thereby suppressing early plant defense.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Lumbar facet joint is an important element of spinal "three-joint complex". Whether there is a relationship between strange structure of facet joint and adolescent lumbar disc herniation (ALDH) is nonetheless controversial, and the current research is mainly centered on adults. OBJECTIVE: To find out the normal lumbar facet joints between 13 and 18 years old to provide anatomical basis for early diagnosis and therapy of lumbar disc herniation. METHODS: CT imaging information of 32 sufferers with lumbar disc herniation aged from 13 to 18 years old in Inner Mongolia have been collected as the ALDH group, and 62 wholesome subjects in the equal period had been chosen as the normal group. Uncooked records of continuous scanning lumbar tomography pix were imported into MIMICS 21.0 for evaluation and size in DICOM format. The parameters include facet joint height, facet joint width, et al. RESULTS: 1. The left and right transverse angle of L5S1 segment in the ALDH group were (52.41 ± 9.2) ° and (55.99 ± 10.91) ° (P < 0.05), and the differences were statistically significant. The right side is larger than the left side. 2. Facet joint thickness in L3-L5 segment of the normal group was significantly higher than that of male (1.63 ± 0.32) mm than that of female (1.38 ± 0.25) mm; In 16-18 years old group, comparison of facet joint cross-sectional area was statistically significant (22.1 ± 3.04) mm2 in male than (18.92 ± 3.71) mm2 in female. 3. In comparison between normal and ALDH group, there was significant difference in L3-4 transverse angle (P < 0.05), L4-5 facet joint height and facet joint thickness (P < 0.05), L5S1 facet joint thickness and transverse angle (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: When ALDH occurs in the L5S1 segment, there is a substantial difference between the left and right sides of the transverse angle, and there is a difference in the thickness and the facet joint cross-sectional area between males and females, which is generally larger in males than in females. Facet joint height is larger, transverse angle of left and right is asymmetric, inferior articular process is larger, and facet joint thickness is smaller can indicate that lumbar disc herniation is effortless to occur.

ABSTRACT

Bladder cancer is a fatal cancer that happens in the genitourinary tract with quite high morbidity and mortality annually. The high level of recurrence rate ranging from 50 to 80% makes bladder cancer one of the most challenging and costly diseases to manage. Faced with various problems in existing methods, a recently emerging concept for the measurement of imaging biomarkers and extraction of quantitative features called "radiomics" shows great potential in the application of detection, grading, and follow-up management of bladder cancer. Furthermore, machine-learning (ML) algorithms on the basis of "big data" are fueling the powers of radiomics for bladder cancer monitoring in the era of precision medicine. Currently, the usefulness of the novel combination of radiomics and ML has been demonstrated by a large number of successful cases. It possesses outstanding strengths including non-invasiveness, low cost, and high efficiency, which may serve as a revolution to tumor assessment and emancipate workforce. However, for the extensive clinical application in the future, more efforts should be made to break down the limitations caused by technology deficiencies, inherent problems during the process of radiomic analysis, as well as the quality of present studies.

ABSTRACT

The tea plant [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] is one of the most important leaf crops, and it is widely used for the production of non-alcoholic beverages worldwide. Tea also has a long history of medicinal use. Colletotrichum camelliae Massee is one of the dominant fungal pathogens that infects tea leaves and causes severe tea anthracnose disease. To analyze the molecular biology of C. camelliae, the quantification of pathogen gene expression by the RT-qPCR method is necessary. Reliable RT-qPCR results require the use of stable reference genes for data normalization. However, suitable reference genes have not been reported in C. camelliae thus far. In this study, 12 candidate genes (i.e., CcSPAC6B12.04c, CcWDR83, Cchp11, Ccnew1, CcHplo, CcRNF5, CcHpcob, CcfaeB-2, CcYER010C, CcRNM1, CcUP18, and CcACT) were isolated from C. camelliae and assessed as potential reference genes. The expression stability of these genes in C. camelliae during spore germination and mycelial growth and interaction with host plants was first evaluated using several statistical algorithms, such as geNorm, NormFinder, and Bestkeeper. A web-based analysis program, Refinder, was then used to find the most suitable reference genes. Our results indicated that Cenew1, CcHplo, and CcSPAC6B12.04c were the most stable reference genes in C. camelliae under all conditions. Our work provided the most suitable reference genes for future studies performed to quantify the target gene expression levels of C. camelliae.

ABSTRACT

A formal [3 + 3] cycloaddition reaction between alkyl 2-aroyl-1-chlorocyclopropanecarboxylates 1 and common hydrazones 2 was developed. This process readily proceeded in diastereo- and regioselective fashion and gave alkyl 1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridazine-3-carboxylates in high yields under mild basic conditions. Treatment of the annulation products with DDQ leads to the formation of functionalized pyridazine-3-carboxylates, analogues of nicotinic acid ester.

ABSTRACT

Vertically aligned CdTe nanorods (NRs) arrays are successfully grown by a simple one-step and template-free electrodeposition method, and then embedded in the CdS window layer to form a novel three-dimensional (3D) heterostructure on flexible substrates. The parameters of electrodeposition such as deposition potential and pH of the solution are varied to analyze their important role in the formation of high quality CdTe NRs arrays. The photovoltaic conversion efficiency of the solar cell based on the 3D heterojunction structure is studied in detail. In comparison with the standard planar heterojunction solar cell, the 3D heterojunction solar cell exhibits better photovoltaic performance, which can be attributed to its enhanced optical absorption ability, increased heterojunction area and improved charge carrier transport. The better photoelectric property of the 3D heterojunction solar cell suggests great application potential in thin film solar cells, and the simple electrodeposition process represents a promising technique for large-scale fabrication of other nanostructured solar energy conversion devices.

ABSTRACT

High-density CdTe nanorod arrays are successfully embedded in a uniform and compact CdS layer, forming a novel three-dimensional (3D) CdTe NRs/CdS heterojunction structure. The CdS layer is prepared by homogeneous precipitation (HP) method using decomposition of urea. The effects of temperature and concentration of reactants on the growth and composition of CdS film are investigated in detail. The results demonstrate that the temperature affects the thermal decomposition of urea significantly, and the concentration of CdCl2 and CS (NH2)2 plays an essential role in the compositional ratio of CdS film. Further investigations reveal that, in comparison with the traditional precipitation method, a better coverage of CdS on the surface of CdTe NRs can be obtained by HP method due to the slow and even hydrolysis of urea. Moreover, photovoltaic performance of the novel CdTe NRs/CdS 3D photovoltaic device is also investigated. This study demonstrates that the 3D heterostructure has potential application in thin film solar cells, and the successful deposition of CdS layer on the surface of CdTe NRs by HP method suggests a promising technique for large-scale fabrication of these solar cells.

ABSTRACT

The marine biological source of mineral drugs recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 version) mainly including pearl, nacre, clam shell, common oyster shell, ark shell, cuttle bone, and sea-ear shell are widely used in clinical. Calcium carbonate and a small amount of protein are the main components in this type of drugs. In this paper, a systematical and comparable study were carried out by determination of calcium carbonate by EDTA titration method, the crystal of calcium carbonate by X-Ray powder diffraction and the total amino acids (TAAs) of the hydrolyzed samples by ultraviolet spectrophotometry method. As a result, the crystal structure is calcite for common oyster shell, mixture of calcite and aragonite for nacre and sea-ear shell, aragonite for the other drugs. The content of calcium carbonate ranged from 86% to 96%. Cuttle bone has the highest amount of TAAs among the seven drugs which reached 1.7% while clam shell has the lowest content of 0.16% on average. In conclusion, an effective method was developed for the quality control of marine mineral drugs by comprehensive analysis of calcium carbonate and TAAs in the seven marine mineral drugs.
