ABSTRACT

It has been suggested that experienced ICU nurses are better able to cope with the complexity of their environment and, as a result, achieve greater satisfaction than their less-experienced counterparts. One hundred ten ICU nurses from a large Midwestern medical center were requested to fill out a job tension and job satisfaction questionnaire. The results showed that job tension and job satisfaction remained relatively constant as the number of years on the job increased, refuting the notion that work experience automatically facilitates a mastery of environmental demands. As expected, job tension was inversely related to job satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

The chief aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of relaxation training on personal adjustment and perceptions of organizational climate. The Stern Activity Index and Organizational Climate Index along with the Bendig Manifest Anxiety Scale were administered to 71 volunteer Ss (28 males and 43 females) as pre- and post-test measures. The Ss were randomly assigned to three groups, seminar and relaxation training, seminar and a placebo condition, and no treatment. A one-way multivariate analysis showed a significant mean difference. Results obtained from t tests indicated a significant reduction in anxiety and an increase in personal adjustment. Changes in perceptions of organizational climate, although in the predicted direction, were not statistically significant.

ABSTRACT

The empirical relationship between judgments obtained with a motorized facial-distortion mirror and relevant personality and rating measures was examined. Subjects were 88 school children. The findings indicated general trend differences between males and females in perceiving facial distortion shown in a mirror. Although not statistically significant, a relationship between teachers' ratings on hygiene, self-concept, sociability, and two scales of the High School Personality Questionnaire were noted.
