ABSTRACT

Suaahara was an innovative, complex, multi-sectoral, large-scale, nutrition programme in Nepal to increase exposure to nutrition-related information and services, improve nutrition-related knowledge and practices among pregnant women and mothers of infants and young children, and improve their nutrition. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Suaahara to improve nutrition and nutrition-related practices by comparing changes over 10 years between intervention and comparison districts. The samples of households at baseline in 2012 and endline in 2022 were 2040 and 2480, respectively, from 120 old wards. The impact was estimated using intent-to-treat regression models in which survey year, arm and their interaction were fixed effects, accounting for district clustering, with the interaction estimating differences between arms in changes over time. The intervention, relative to comparison, reduced maternal underweight by 8.43 percentage points (p < 0.001), consistent with improved maternal and fetal condition that was manifested as the greater length of 0.761 z-scores (p = 0.004) of infants 0-5.9 months. Complementary feeding practices with children between 6 and 23.9 months of age improved more in the intervention than comparison districts: child dietary diversity by 0.294 food groups (p = 0.072) and minimum dietary diversity by 9.51 percentage points (p = 0.028), feeding sick child more (p = 0.002) and administering oral rehydration solution and zinc for diarrhoea (p = 0.057) by about 17 percentage points each, and minimum meal frequency (p = 0.004) and minimum acceptable diet (p = 0.022) by about 15 percentage points each. Substantial impacts were demonstrated despite political restructuring, earthquakes, and other major challenges that Nepal and Suaahara faced and limitations in statistical power because of the reduced number of districts that then could be included in the study. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: An annualised linear growth velocity (LGV) reference can identify groups of children at risk of growing poorly. As a single velocity reference for all preschool ages does not exist, we present an interim tool, derived from published, normative growth studies, for detecting growth faltering, illustrating its use in Nepali preschoolers. DESIGN: The WHO Child Growth Velocity Standard was adapted to derive 12-month increments and conjoined to the Tanner-Whitehouse Height Velocity Reference data yielding contiguous preschool linear growth annualised velocities. Linear restricted cubic spline regressions were fit to generate sex-specific median and standard normal deviate velocities for ages 0 through 59 months. LGV Z-scores (LGVZ) were constructed, and growth faltering was defined as LGVZ < ­2. SETTING: Use of the reference was illustrated with data from Nepal's Tarai region. PARTICIPANTS: Children contributing the existing growth references and a cohort of 4276 Nepali children assessed from 2013 to 2016. RESULTS: Fitted, smoothed LGV reference curves displayed monotonically decreasing 12-month LGV, exemplified by male/female annual medians of 26·4/25·3, 12·1/12·7, 9·1/9·4, 7·7/7·8 and 7/7 cm/years, starting at 0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months, respectively. Applying the referent, 31·1 %, 28·6 % and 29·3 % of Nepali children <6, 6­11 and 12­23 months of age, and ∼6 % of children 24­59 months, exhibited growth faltering. Under 24 months, faltering velocities were more prevalent in girls (34·4 %) than boys (25·3 %) (P < 0·05) but comparable (∼6 %) in older preschoolers. CONCLUSIONS: A LGV reference, concatenated from extant data, can identify preschool groups at-risk of growth faltering. Application and limitations are discussed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To provide insights into the nature, risk factors, impact and existing measures for reporting and preventing violence in the healthcare system. The under-reporting of violence against healthcare workers (HCWs) globally highlights the need for increased public awareness and education. METHODS: The Violence Study of Healthcare Workers and Systems study used a survey questionnaire created using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) forms and distributed from 6 June to 9 August 2022. Logistic regression analysis evaluated violence predictors, including gender, age, years of experience, institution type, respondent profession and night shift frequency. A χ2 test was performed to determine the association between gender and different violence forms. RESULTS: A total of 5405 responses from 79 countries were analysed. India, the USA and Venezuela were the top three contributors. Female respondents comprised 53%. The majority (45%) fell within the 26-35 age group. Medical students (21%), consultants (20%), residents/fellows (15%) and nurses (10%) constituted highest responders. Nearly 55% HCWs reported firsthand violence experience, and 16% reported violence against their colleagues. Perpetrators were identified as patients or family members in over 50% of cases, while supervisor-incited violence accounted for 16%. Around 80% stated that violence incidence either remained constant or increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among HCWs who experienced violence, 55% felt less motivated or more dissatisfied with their jobs afterward, and 25% expressed willingness to quit. Univariate analysis revealed that HCWs aged 26-65 years, nurses, physicians, ancillary staff, those working in public settings, with >1 year of experience, and frequent night shift workers were at significantly higher risk of experiencing violence. These results remained significant in multivariate analysis, except for the 55-65 age group, which lost statistical significance. CONCLUSION: This global cross-sectional study highlights that a majority of HCWs have experienced violence, and the incidence either increased or remained the same during the COVID-19 pandemic. This has resulted in decreased job satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

Teaching medical students is an art that requires expertise in the core content of the subject and specialized teaching techniques. Learning to teach medical students and teachers learning from those teachings themselves is a lifelong process. Short medical teacher training courses in various specialized teaching techniques lay the foundation for a positive teaching experience that can substantially impact medical education. The Faculty Development Program is one such training course for medical teachers, designed to be an essential step toward becoming a student-centered facilitator. This article sheds light on the current status and significance of the faculty development program in Nepalese medical education. It also offers suggestions and critical strategies to improve the program in the future with available resources and to integrate it further into medical education. BACKGROUND: Breast self-examination is a simple, inexpensive and effective method of examining the breast by woman herself after 20 years of age in order to detect a breast lump in the early stage. Women should have this knowledge for early detection and treatment of breast cancer. So, the present study aimed to assess awareness of female community health volunteers regarding breast self-examination and the effect of a teaching program. METHODS: One group pre-test post-test study was conducted among 145 female community health volunteers selected from eight wards of Pokhara Metropolitan using convenient sampling technique. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire from 27 March to 23 April 2022. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. RESULTS: Before intervention, around two third of respondents (67.6%) had inadequate and only 1.4% had adequate level of awareness. But after the intervention, 68.3% had adequate level of awareness. The post-test mean awareness score (23.87 ± 4.7) was higher than pre-test mean awareness score (12.97 ± 3.93). Test of significance revealed that increment in the awareness due to a structured teaching program was highly significant (p <0 .001). This study also found that there was difference in the mean pretest awareness score according to educational level of the respondents only. Based on the mean score, the score was significantly higher among women with higher level of education (p=<.001). CONCLUSIONS: Around two thirds of female community health volunteers have inadequate level of awareness regarding breast self-examination before the intervention. Educational intervention program was found to be effective in improving their awareness.

ABSTRACT

Biological materials such as amino acids are attractive due to their smaller environmental footprint, ease of functionalization, and potential for creating biocompatible surfaces for devices. Here, we report the facile assembly and characterization of highly conductive films of composites of phenylalanine, one of the essential amino acids, and PEDOT:PSS, a commonly used conducting polymer. We have observed that introducing aromatic amino acid phenylalanine into PEDOT:PSS to form composite films can improve the conductivity of the films by up to a factor of 230 compared to the conductivity of pristine PEDOT:PSS film. In addition, the conductivity of the composite films can be tuned by varying the amount of phenylalanine in PEDOT:PSS. Using DC and AC measurement techniques, we have determined that the conduction in the highly conductive composite films thus created is due to improvement in the electron transport efficiency compared to the charge transport in pure PEDOT:PSS films. Using SEM and AFM, we demonstrate that this could be due to the phase separation of PSS chains from PEDOT:PSS globules which can create efficient charge transport pathways. Fabricating composites of bioderived amino acids with conducting polymers using facile techniques such as the one we report here opens up opportunities for the development of low-cost biocompatible and biodegradable electronic materials with desired electronic properties.

BACKGROUND: The majority of Nepalese people are involved in farming. However, due to limited knowledge of zoonoses and poor preventive practices on the part of livestock farmers, vulnerabilities to zoonotic diseases are very high. The main objective of this study was to assess the regional variation in zoonoses-related knowledge and preventive practices of livestock farmers in different ecological regions of Nepal. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Descriptive cross-sectional quantitative research design was followed in the study. The total sample size was 380 livestock farmers from randomly selected three ecological regions of Nepal. Systematic sampling techniques were applied for data collection. Data were entered into an excel sheet and then imported into Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The data were calculated using descriptive statistics. Univariate, and bivariate analyses were performed, and the result of the study was presented in the form of text and tables based on their nature. RESULTS: Of the studied six zoonotic diseases, most of the respondents (95.8%) knew about zoonotic bird flu; 90.7% of them, were about rabies; and 54.2% knew about swine flu. However, a few respondents knew about bovine tuberculosis, neurocysticercosis, and brucellosis. Ecologically, the highest number of respondents in Nawalpur had knowledge of rabies (95.3%), and swine flu (61.6%), whereas 98.3% of them had knowledge of avian influenza in Tanahun; and 12.5% of neurocysticercosis in Manang. Regarding zoonoses preventive practices such as regular hand washing with soap water, mask-wearing, gloves, boots, the respondents' representation of 60.8%, 6.6%, 1.8%, and 1.3% respectively in such practices show that although these are easy and cost-effective, personal protective equipment (PPE), such preventive practices were extremely underperformed. Not only that, only 12% of respondents maintain a standard distance (>15m.) between their house and shed. Similarly, 17% still consumed meat from sick animals, and vaccination of livestock was also found poor coverage (36%) in the study. CONCLUSIONS: Livestock farmers need to be more knowledgeable about many common zoonotic diseases, and their preventive practices still need improvement, with significant regional variation in the study. This has invited various zoonosis threats for them. Therefore, it is recommended that the interventional programs related to common zoonoses be conducted for livestock farmers to solve the problem.

Over the last three years, research has focused on examining cardiac issues arising from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection, including the emergence of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF). Still, no clinical study was conducted on the persistence of this arrhythmia after COVID-19 recovery. Our objective was to compose a narrative review that investigates COVID-19-associated NOAF, emphasizing the evolving pathophysiological mechanisms akin to those suggested for sustaining AF. Given the distinct strategies involved in the persistence of atrial AF and the crucial burden of persistent AF, we aim to underscore the importance of extended follow-up for COVID-19-associated NOAF. A comprehensive search was conducted for articles published between December 2019 and February 11, 2023, focusing on similarities in the pathophysiology of NOAF after COVID-19 and those persisting AF. Also, the latest data on incidence, morbidity-mortality, and management of NOAF in COVID-19 were investigated. Considerable overlaps between the mechanisms of emerging NOAF after COVID-19 infection and persistent AF were observed, mostly involving reactive oxygen pathways. With potential atrial remodeling associated with NOAF in COVID-19 patients, this group of patients might benefit from long-term follow-up and different management. Future cohort studies could help determine long-term outcomes of NOAF after COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a rare fibroinflammatory disease that is reported to be associated with other autoimmune conditions. Here, we report the case of a 51-year-old Caucasian female with a history of autoimmune thyroiditis and Hashimoto's hypothyroidism who presented with symptoms of fever, chills, and hot flashes for three weeks associated with nausea, vomiting, frequent thirst, and frequent urination. On examination, the patient had elevated blood pressure and an excoriated rash on the forearms. Laboratory evaluation showed elevated blood urea nitrogen and creatinine with a hypertensive emergency. Renal ultrasound showed bilateral hydronephrosis suggestive of obstructive uropathy. Computerized tomography of the abdomen and pelvis was suggestive of extensive retroperitoneal fibrosis. The patient was diagnosed with idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis without an identifiable secondary cause. Treatment was focused on relieving the ureteral obstruction, managing renal functions, and optimizing blood pressure, following which immunomodulatory agents were used.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to be a devastating disease for the elderly population, especially in long-term care facilities, and it presents with varying clinical presentations. We have ample evidence that COVID-19 can predispose to deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) during an active infection. Still, very few cases of DVT have been reported after recovery from COVID-19. The imbalance of the coagulation cascade and the increased release of certain coagulation factors play an essential role in promoting hypercoagulability and vascular endothelial dysfunction. It leads to a rise in the level of fibrin degradation products, D-dimers, which can remain elevated for up to several weeks, even after recovery. It has been suggested that the risk of DVT occurring after recovering from COVID-19 remains high for up to three months. We report a case of a 77-year-old long-term care female resident at a nursing facility, ambulatory at baseline, who was noted to be COVID-19 positive upon routine facility-wide testing per department of health guidelines. She was asymptomatic during her 10-day quarantine period. D-dimer levels during routine labs were high (initial D-dimer level of 1.87 mg/L FEU {normal value: 0.19-0.52 mg/L FEU}), but the patient had no clinical signs and symptoms of DVT. Ultrasound of the bilateral legs was not performed due to low clinical suspicion. The patient received an enoxaparin DVT prophylaxis dose during the quarantine period. Follow-up D-dimer levels were done at frequent intervals after recovery, but D-dimer levels continued to remain elevated up till six weeks after her 10-day quarantine period ended. Based on previous experience with other long-term care residents who suffered from COVID-19, bilateral lower extremity ultrasound was performed, which showed bilateral DVT. Elevated D-dimer levels are a predictor of hypercoagulation complications in COVID-19. Patients with persistently elevated D-dimer levels after recovery from COVID-19 should be screened for thromboembolic complications, even if they are asymptomatic. DVT can occur up to three months post-recovery from COVID-19 infection.

ABSTRACT

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome is a life-threatening condition associated with elevated inflammatory markers and multiple organ injury. A diagnosis of exclusion, it has been reported after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection (SARS-CoV-2) in children and adults; recently it has been described in some post-COVID-19 vaccinated individuals. The prognosis with supportive care and immunomodulatory therapy is good, although some individuals may require treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Here we report a case of a 58-year-old man who developed multi-organ failure after receiving the second dose of the Moderna mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine. He required critical organ support in the ICU. An extensive workup was done to rule out alternative infectious and inflammatory processes. Following a period of gradual in-hospital convalescence, our patient made a full recovery. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensively described case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with Moderna mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine in an adult over 50 years of age.

OBJECTIVES: The COVID-19 pandemic severely restricted in-person learning. As a result, many educational institutions switched to online platforms to continue teaching. COVID-19 webinars have been useful for rapidly disseminating information to frontline healthcare workers. While conducting COVID-19 webinars through online platforms is a popular method to train medical professionals, their effectiveness has never been investigated. Our aim was to ascertain the usefulness of COVID-19 webinars during the pandemic. METHODS: We conducted an online survey of about 400 frontline healthcare workers. 112 people responded to the survey (response rate = 28%). In it, we asked several questions to determine whether webinars had been a useful resource to help deal with COVID-19 patients. RESULTS: We found that a majority of healthcare worker respondents had favorable opinions of online education during the pandemic as around 78% of respondents either agreed or highly agreed that webinars are a useful source of knowledge. A significant proportion (34%) did not participate in webinars and gave time constraints as their main reason for not participating. CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that while online education is a great way to disseminate information quickly to a large amount of people, it also comes with its disadvantages. As we transition into a post-pandemic world, we need to make sure that online teaching is designed with the best interests of the healthcare workers in mind to ensure that we get the most out of it.

Massive efforts are being made to develop coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines at an unprecedented rate. The vaccinations' adverse impact profile, on the other hand, has not been well established. Neurological complications are increasingly reported as a result of these vaccines. One such complication identified is immune-mediated inflammatory polyneuropathy, which affects peripheral nerves and neurons. We report a case of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) post-mRNA-1273 (Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine. Recognizing this complication and distinguishing it from Guillain-Barré syndrome enables timely initiation of treatment. Additionally, our report highlights a possible link between vaccination and subsequent development of CIDP, but conclusive evidence of a causal relationship requires more extensive studies.

Hypertriglyceridemia is known to be the third most common etiology of acute pancreatitis. Triglyceride levels above 1,000 mg/dL are associated with an increased risk of acute pancreatitis. We present the case of a 22-year-old female, a known case of hypertriglyceridemia, who developed sudden onset severe epigastric abdominal pain. A marked elevation in triglyceride levels of >3,000 mg/dL, serum lipase levels of 722 U/L, and serum amylase levels of 161 U/L, in the absence of other risk factors of acute pancreatitis, suggested hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast confirmed acute pancreatitis with hepatic steatosis. She was initially placed nil per os (NPO) and intravenous (IV) fluids with normal saline were administered. However, she was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit as she developed acute respiratory distress syndrome. She was started on IV insulin with 5% dextrose in normal saline and a hydromorphone hydrochloride patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump was used for pain control. The patient's condition improved gradually. At the time of discharge, the triglyceride (311 mg/dL) and lipase levels (81 U/L) of the patient were within the normal range. The prognosis of hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis is considered to be worse than non-hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis need swift diagnosis and treatment to avoid serious complications.

BACKGROUND: Despite interventions for over four decades, the unmet need for family planning is high in Nepal. This study aims to examine the status and the socioeconomic determinants of inequalities in modern contraception among currently married women. METHODS:  We applied a mixed-method design. We interviewed key informants for qualitative information and analyzed secondary data from the Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, 2019, and different rounds of Nepal Demographic and Health Surveys. We calculated ratios, differences in percentages, and concentration indices to analyse the inequality. We ran a binary logistic regression model to estimate the adjusted effect of each factor on the use of modern contraception. RESULTS:  The richest-to-poorest difference in using modern contraception has decreased over 13 years. The richest-to-poorest difference decreased from 23.6 percentage points in 2006 to 13.3 percentage points in 2011 and further to 1.2 percentage points in 2016. The richest-to-poorest difference was negative in 2019, indicating poor people are using more contraception than the richest. Multivariate analysis showed the wealth is a significant predictor for using contraception. Women of richer households (aOR=1.29, 95% CI=1.13-1.48), middle (aOR=1.21, 95% CI=1.05-1.40), poorer (aOR=1.36, 95% CI 1.17-1.58) and poorest (aOR=1.18, 95% CI=1.05-1.34) were more likely to use contraception than women from the richest households. CONCLUSIONS: Poor people are increasingly using the modern contraception, and the gap between the poor and rich people has decreased. However, the trend of contraception use in each wealth quintile indicates that Nepal struggles to meet the sustainable development goal target of reducing the unmet need for family planning to less than 10% by 2030.

Background: Nepal's female community health volunteers (FCHVs) each lead a monthly health mothers' group (HMG) to share health-related information and engage communities in the health system. Suaahara II (SII), a US Agency for International Development-funded multisectoral nutrition program, uses social and behavior change interventions to promote HMG participation and uses its health systems interventions to strengthen HMG quality. Objectives: This study aimed to explore HMG functionality and variation across Nepal, including barriers and facilitators to attending HMG meetings. Methods: SII's cross-sectional annual survey data from 16 districts (n = 192 FCHVs and 1850 mothers with children <2 y) were used. Descriptive and logistic regression analyses were conducted where the outcome variable was whether mothers were active HMG members or not, with FCHV and maternal characteristics as explanatory variables. Qualitative data were obtained from 3 of 16 survey districts (n = 30 observations, n = 30 in-depth interviews with mothers, and n = 16 focus group discussions with mothers, family members, FCHVs, health workers, and SII staff). Results: Among FCHVs, 90% reported facilitating HMG meetings, whereas 64% of mothers reported HMG availability, and only 25% reported participating actively in meetings. Household head sex, maternal age, maternal education, maternal self-efficacy, and engagement with an FCHV and SII were associated with whether mothers were active participants in HMG meetings. Qualitative findings highlighted systems-level barriers, including lack of FCHV skills, demotivation, and heavy workload. Mothers noted time as the major constraint and family support, the HMG's savings component, and active FCHVs as facilitators to participation. Conclusions: Findings suggest that both supply- and demand-side solutions are needed to improve HMG performance and uptake in Nepal. These solutions need to include improving FCHV skills and motivating them to provide high-quality HMG services, as well as encouraging family members to support women so that they have time to participate in the HMGs.

ABSTRACT

Background: Access to drinking Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) at schools are the basic determinants of a child's right to healthy and quality education. In Nepal, most of the schools had limited WASH facilities, including separate sanitation facilities for girls. The limited WASH facilities, unsafe drinking water, poor sanitation, and hygiene practices result in irresponsible behaviors that directly impede on students' health. This study examines the association between WASH services and health status of basic level students', ranging sixth to eighth grades. In Nepal, basic level education consists up to eighth standards from grade 1. Methods: The study applies causal-comparative research design within 2 groups; 1 having improved WASH and another without improved WASH services at the schools in Dhanusha and Chitwan districts of Nepal. Each group consists 2 schools, so altogether 4 schools were included in this study. Total 768, equal 384 respondents were selected from each improved and without improved WASH facilities. The study was conducted in between January and March 2021 at a single-phase time. The sample size was calculated using the standard statistical formula for the infinite population. The study applied quantitative research method, including 3 sorts of analysis; univariate, bivariate, and the multivariate. The univariate was applied to analyze the frequency and percentages of the respondents. Bivariate analysis was made applying chi2 test in order to show the association between 2 variables, whereas the multivariate logistic regression was performed through multilevel modeling to show the effects of school WASH facilities on students' health status. Results: Out of 768 students', 384 (50%) were from improved and 384 (50%) were from unimproved WASH facilities at schools. More than two third (64%) of respondents from the unimproved and higher than two fifth (41%) from the improved schools got sickness (P <.001). Further, three fifth (59%) of respondents aged 15 to 19 and higher than half (51%) of respondents ages of 10 to 14 years got sickness (P <.05). Most (57%) of the female respondents had sickness compared to males (47%), (P <.05). More than two-thirds (67%) of respondents from Dalit and nearly two-thirds (62%) of respondents from Brahmin/Chhetri-Terai more often found being sick in unimproved schools compared to other castes (55%), Janajati (43%), and Brahmin/Chhetri-Hill (39%) (P <.001). The school WASH services has significant effect (cOR = 0.388, CI; 290-0.519, P <.001) on students health status, even adjusting other socio-covariates (aOR = .442, CI; 0.302-0.646, P <.001). The female respondents were more likely to fall sick (aOR = 678, CI; 0.502-0.915, P <.01) compared to the male respondents keeping all other variables constant in the model. Conclusion: The study recommends to extend WASH awareness program to school families, particularly to the students as there is an evident need to increase preventive as well as the therapeutic efficacy of the potential infections.

BACKGROUND: In South Asian countries, adolescent girls are generally embedded in multigenerational households. Nevertheless, public health research continues to focus on the nuclear family and overlook the role of grandmothers in adolescent socialization and the transfer of health information. This study compares family planning knowledge of adolescent girls in households with and without a resident grandmother. Two main types of family planning knowledge were assessed: (1) modern contraceptive knowledge and (2) healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy knowledge. METHODS: This study is a secondary data analysis of the 2017 Suaahara II cross-sectional survey in 16 of Nepal's 77 districts. Family planning knowledge among 769 adolescent girls was assessed and compared between those living with a grandmother (n = 330) and those not living with a grandmother (n = 439). An analysis of the relationship between co-residence and family planning knowledge was carried out using multivariate logistic regression, adjusting for potential confounders and clustering. Additionally, we used the same method to analyze the association between grandmothers' family planning knowledge and that of co-resident adolescents. RESULTS: The odds of correct adolescent modern family planning knowledge were 1.81 (95% CI = 1.27,2.58) times higher in households with a grandmother. The study also identified higher odds of adolescent knowledge of modern contraceptives in households where grandmothers also had correct knowledge (OR 2.00, 95%, CI = 0.97,4.11), although this association was not statistically significant at the 0.05 alpha level. There was insufficient evidence to support the association between grandmother's co-residency and correct adolescent knowledge of the healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy. CONCLUSION: This study provides support for expanding adolescent reproductive health to include the role of senior women in promoting and transmitting health care knowledge to younger women in the household.
