ABSTRACT

Patients suffering from gout and uric acid diathesis received a specialized diet containing 70 g protein (85% of plant protein including 20 g of soybean protein isolate), 85 g fat and 350 g carbohydrates. As a result there was an improvement of the general well-being during dietetic management, a rise of pH of the urine to normal, a decrease in the concentration of uric acid in blood serum and urine with a simultaneous elevation of the latter's clearance, an increase in glomerular filtration, a reduction in blood cholesterol content. The data obtained allow the conclusion to be made about the necessity of the rigid observance of the diet by the patients. This will play an important role both in the treatment and prophylaxis of urolithiasis in the patients' population under consideration.

ABSTRACT

The effects of two diets containing different proteins on the time-course of clinical and biochemical characteristics were studied in 60 patients with incipient chronic renal failure. One of the diets included protein of the vegetable origin (85%), whereas the other one animal protein (75%). The diet with vegetable protein produced a beneficial effect on the patients. They stopped making complaints, demonstrating blood pressure and azotemia reduction. The diet with animal protein was a failure. It is desirable that patients with incipient chronic renal failure should receive the first diet on a constant basis as the main treatment regimen.

ABSTRACT

Patients with chronic renal failure received the diet in which plant protein accounted for 80% of protein component. There was a definite decline in the serum of amylase and lipase activity. The activity of trypsin and its inhibitor remained the same whereas the control group manifested its elevation. In administering the diet for a long time one should consider the possibilities of the occurrence of the action of plant proteinase inhibitors.
