ABSTRACT

This study uses novel evolutionary algorithms and computational techniques to analyze wind potential on flat, complex coastal, and offshore sites utilizing mast as well as remote sensing data. The wind data were recorded using remote sensing technique and conventional technique. The optimum Weibull parameters are estimated using nine methods. The genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization, and TLBO algorithms are compared and evaluated. The goodness of fit test, such as root mean square error test (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), coefficient of determination (R2), and chi-square test (X2), is used to evaluate the accuracy of the selected methods. Parameter estimates are used to compute wind densities. The TLBO and PSO algorithms outperformed genetic algorithms in terms of efficiency. This research compares remote sensing measurements to cup anemometer measurements.

ABSTRACT

One approach for reducing the level of environmental contamination threats around the world is to use renewable energy-harvesting equipment. Wind is a potential environmental resource that has become a desirable aspect of urban use due to advances in wind turbine design technology. Other variants have been developed based on the classic vertical-axis Savonius rotor model, which, according to experimental test findings and computational calculations, show higher operational characteristics performance. Generated power and shaft torque operational results are obtained by providing specific rotor blade shapes in these models, one of the most common designs, among small-scale rotor which uses a drag-based vertical axis whereas Savonius turbines having large-scale rotors not developed yet. This kind of rotor has the advantages of being simple to design, affordable, performing well at low speeds, and turns to flow direction independently. However, it was discovered that the Savonius rotor suffers through high quantity of negative torques created by the returning blade after a number of examinations into its performance. Many studies on various rotor types have been conducted to resolve the Savonius turbine's performance constraints. The research showed and analyzed the difficulties and modification in design parameters of rotor, as well as their major impact on rotor performance.

ABSTRACT

Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a rare anomaly where both gonads descend towards the same side of the hemiscrotum. Although more than 100 cases of TTE are reported, TTE with fused vas are extremely rare. We present our series of 4 TTE patients with fused vas [4, 7, 9 and 26 months old]. Three cases were diagnosed at the time of inguinal exploration and one during a planned laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. An indirect inguinal hernia with TTE was noted with a fused proximal vas deferens in all 4 cases [Figure 1]. Inguinal herniotomy, ipsilateral orchidopexy along with contralateral transeptal orchidopexy (testis brought down through the inguinal canal on the same side of hernia) [Figure 2] was performed in all patients without any complication. None of the patients had uterine tissue. Testicular biopsies, Array and karyotyping (46XY) were normal in all 4 patients. Follow-up ultrasound doppler scans revealed normal testes with good vascularity in all patients. Fused vas with TTE is rare but transeptal orchidopexy is feasible with excellent outcome.

ABSTRACT

AIMS: Hirschsprung disease (HD) is a chronic condition associated with long-term morbidity. We assessed the short and long-term functional outcomes of operated patients in a single institution over a 12-year period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of all children operated for HD between 2002 and 2014. Postoperative functional outcomes were assessed using the Rintala Bowel Function Score (BFS, 0-20, 20=best score). We assessed hospital admissions, complications including Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis (HAEC) and the need for further surgical procedures. RESULTS: 72 (52 male) patients were studied, of whom, 6 (8%) had a positive family history, 5 (7%) had Trisomy 21 and 5 (7%) had total colonic HD. The median age at diagnosis was 6.5days (2 days-6.7 years) and median follow-up was 6years (1-12years). All patients except two underwent a Duhamel pull-through procedure. The median age at surgery was 4months (6days-90months). 37 (51%) procedures were performed single-stage and 7 (10%) were laparoscopically assisted. Our early complication rate was 15%; 11 (15%) patients were treated for HAEC and 43 (60%) did not require any further surgery. 12 (17%) underwent injection of botulinum toxin, 7 (10%) needed residual spur division and 4 (5%) required an unplanned, post pull-through enterostomy for obstructive defecation symptoms and HAEC. Two (3%) patients underwent an Antegrade Colonic Enema (ACE) stoma. The median BFS was 17 (5-20). There were two deaths both out of hospital. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term functional outcomes following Duhamel Pull-Through surgery are satisfactory although 40% of patients needed some form of further surgical intervention. The management of anal sphincter achalasia has improved with the use of botulinum toxin and we advocate aggressive and early management of this condition for symptoms of obstructive defecation and HAEC. ABSTRACT

The present study has been undertaken to evaluate physico-chemical parameters (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, alkalinity and hardness) and zinc concentration in water bodies in and around Jaipur. Water samples from Jalmachal Lake, Nevta Lake, Amer Lake and Ramgarh Lake were analysed. Results reveal that the water of Jalmahal Lake is most polluted due to high pH, hardness, alkalinity, free carbon dioxide, zinc content, and a low level of dissolved oxygen. Contrarily Ramgarh Lake is least polluted, as it has high dissolved oxygen and low pH, alkalinity, free carbon dioxide, hardness and zinc content.
