ABSTRACT
Toxic plants that affect ruminants bother animal breeders and responsible for the animal production, also considering the fact that most of the cases are only of popular knowledge, without study and / or practices to decrease the poisoning rates. Thus, a research project was developed to learn more about toxic plants that affect ruminants in the region, talking to producers, veterinarians, animal husbandry or agronomists on farms. It was observed that in the visited properties little is known about toxic plants and its severity and in those properties which a person is responsible for producing and understands about the subject, actions are not taken to avoid losses due to diseases associated with intoxication plants.(AU)

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the reproductive performance of swine breed Landrace and Large White created in the region the hot weather in the south of Piauí state. Sampling was carried out between pure animals containing such information, the total number of piglets born; number of weaned piglets; date of birth of the piglets; coverage of the array data. These data were submitted to variance analysis, comparing the average standard deviation of characteristics and the coefficient of variation. Landrace of the results showed better reproductive performance than data Large White, the two races are excellent reproductive pattern, so they are considered large arrays in pig farming.(AU)
