ABSTRACT

The papers deals with changes in the levels of lipid peroxidation products in patients with stable angina of effort, which occurred with intravenous helium-neon blood irradiation. The therapy was highly effective in patients with lower functional classes and persons with normal circulation, resulting in a reduction in lipid peroxidation intensity. Predictors are recommended to determine the efficiency and expediency of laser therapy in patients with coronary heart disease.

ABSTRACT

Some antioxidants (2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine chlorhydrate and some of its derivatives and 4-methyl-2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) have been shown to stimulate proliferation of young and old diploid cell at all phases of culture growth (lag and stationary phases). It is supposed that the mechanism of this effect may depend on stimulation of dreaming cell to division.

ABSTRACT

The value of the labelling index (incubation with H3-thymidine) was compared with the doubling time of tumour volume (by repeated roentgenograms) for 3 tumours of human lungs: two squamous cell carcinomas taken at various differentiation levels and a hamartoma. The minimum doubling time (178 days) was shown for the squamous cell carcinoma with a lower differentiation level and the greatest labelling index value (19.0%). Hamartoma (a non-malignant tumour of lung) displayed the longest doubling time (1250 days) and the least labelling index value (3.8%).

ABSTRACT

The growth of the epithelial and connective tissue cells was noted in cultivation of human schirrous carcinoma of the stomach in diffuse chambers. In difference to the initial tissue of the tumour in vitro in which no incorporation of thymidine-H3 into the connective tissue cells was noted, these cells proved to be labeled under conditions of growth in the chambers. One hour after the administration of thymidine-H3 the percentage of cells with labeled nuclei averaged 25.1% this considerably exceeding the value of the label index determined under conditions of incubation in vitro of the initial tumour tissue (6.6%). Under conditions of cultivation there was revealed a rapidly proliferating subpopulation of cells with the mitotic cycle duration of 14.8 hours.

ABSTRACT

Sixteen cases of human stomach adenocarcinoma were studied, using the in vitro incubation in H3-thymidine medium. The portion of cells synthesizing DNA (the label index) has been correlated with histological and clinico-anatomical characteristics. An average value of the label index for human stomach adenocarcinomas was 29.9% (14.1%--39.1%). Some dependence between the label index and level of structural-cellular atypism of tumor tissue and tumor size has been shown.
