ABSTRACT

Lymphangioma is a rare, benign tumour occurring due to congenital malformation of the lymphatic channels. It occurs due to obstruction in the lymphatic channel and results in lymphangiectasia. The tumour is most commonly encountered in the head and neck regions and almost 90% are in the children below the age of 2 years. Retroperitoneal Lymphangioma in an adult is a rare clinical condition. We have presented a 41 year old female with retroperitoneal lymphangioma who came to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh on 10 October 2017 with the non-specific complains of upper abdominal discomfort, occasional nausea, vomiting and aorexia for the last 1.5 years. She was managed surgically by exploratory laparotomy followed by de-roofing of the cyst. Histopathological examination of the cyst wall was consistent with lymphangioma.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the diagnostic utility of endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) of pancreatic lesions, EUS-FNA was carried out on a total of 28 cases at the Department of Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from June 2015 to August 2016. Clinical impression was compared with the final cytological diagnosis and the percentage of non diagnostic smears was calculated. The lesions were categorized according to cytological report. Out of 28 cases, 3(10.71%) cases were normal, 6 cases (21.43%) were reported as inconclusive while a definite diagnosis was given in 19 cases (67.85%). The mean patient age was 47.82 years. There were 16(57.1%) males and 12(42.9%) females. The most common site biopsied was pancreatic head in 21cases (75%) followed by tail in 5 cases (17.9%) & body in 2(7.1%) cases. The average number of passes made was two. Endoscopic Ultrasound Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration in the diagnosis of pancreatic lesion is a useful procedure.

ABSTRACT

PIP: This cross-sectional study determined the extent of utilization of antenatal care (ANC) and identified factors influencing utilization. The study was conducted in 9 rural hospitals in Rajshahi district, Bangladesh, among 810 recently delivered women. Data were collected using a structured interview schedule and were analyzed using simple descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, and logistic regression. Of the 810 respondents, 30.05% had antenatal checkups and 81.3% received tetanus toxoid before delivery. 69.5% of the women did not have any antenatal check-ups for reasons such as absence of complications and the feeling that it was not mandatory to have such check-ups. Important factors influencing utilization of ANC were freedom of decision-making, perception about the need for ANC, and income. There is a need for improving utilization of ANC, especially through perception improvement about ANC and freedom of decision-making.^ieng
