ABSTRACT
The supracrestal tissue attachment (SCTA) is the new terminology for biologic width. SCTA is defined as the physiologic dimension of a solitary functional unit composed of junctional epithelium and connective tissue attachment. Its preservation is critical for the well-being of periodontal health. SCTA has been widely studied and scientific literature is indicative of its significance during the placement of restoration, including prosthetic crowns. This should be taken care of in cases of anterior teeth within the smile zone, where dental crowns are regularly placed subgingivally for aesthetic reasons. In addition, any violation of SCTA while restoring the dentition will present as gingival inflammation and pain, consequently, leading to failure of the clinical procedure.
ABSTRACT
Resistin is a small adipocyte-specific secretory hormone molecule. It has been associated with a number of cellular and metabolic processes. It has also been essentially implicated to have a vital role in the interplay between insulin resistance, obesity, and type II diabetes. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated an association between many pathological illnesses with elevated serum resistin levels. It has also been shown to affect and modulate various molecular processes such as atherosclerosis, cancer cell metabolism, and inflammation. Periodontitis is a widespread inflammatory disease affecting human beings. Periapical periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that manifests as a sequela of untreated dental caries. Therefore, in this article, we summarize the divergent physiological roles played by resistin and its association with the mechanism of various pathologies. Moreover, current scientific studies discussing its association and role in common dental pathologies, periodontitis, and apical periodontitis are reviewed.

BACKGROUND: Dentinal hypersensitivity is a commonly observed problem after periodontal treatment procedures in periodontal patients. This further complicates preventive oral hygiene procedures by patients which jeopardize periodontal treatment, or even may aid in periodontal treatment failure. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aims and objectives of present study were to assess the problem of dentine hypersensitivity after non-surgical periodontal treatment and selection of cases for evaluation of commercially available milk at room temperature as mouth rinse for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity caused by periodontal treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients were selected randomly for nonsurgical periodontal treatment and then were assessed for dentine hypersensitivity. Those having dentine hypersensitivity were assigned in two groups. Group one patients were advised to rinse with commercially available milk at room temperature, group two patients were advised to rinse with luke warm water as control. A four point Verbal Rating Score (VRS) was designed to record the numerical value of dentine hypersensitivity. RESULTS: The results show incidence of 42.5% and prevalence of 77.5% for dentine hypersensitivity after periodontal treatment procedures. After rinsing with milk following periodontal treatment procedures, there was found a significant reduction of dentine hypersensitivity with probability by unpaired t-test as 0.0007 and 0.0001 at tenth and fifteenth day post periodontal treatment procedures respectively. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the milk rinse is a suitable, cheaper, fast acting, home-use and easily available solution to the problem of dentine hypersensitivity after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Milk can be used as desensitizing agent and rinsing with milk for few days is effective in quick reduction of dentine hypersensitivity due to periodontal treatment procedures.

BACKGROUND: The aims and objectives of this study were placement of implants in freshly extracted sockets of anterior teeth and to evaluate the implant stability, peri-implant radiolucency and gingival inflammation around implant over a short period of 30 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 12 patients (8 male and 4 female), ranging in the age from 20 to 50 years, from March 2007 to June 2007, were evaluated for immediate implant placement into 22 fresh extraction sockets. Only maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth/roots (central incisors, lateral incisors and canines) were considered for replacement with implants. One piece implant with integrated abutment and integrated surface, non-submerged, threaded and tapered at apical 5 mm, sand-blasted and acid etched surfaced implants (HI-TEC TRX-OP Implants of Life Care Company) were used. RESULTS: The mobility was not present in any of the implants at all the follow up visits. There were 2 implants at 6 month, 1 implant at 12 month, 1 implant at 18 month visits, showing peri-implant radiolucency at some sites at bone to implant contact site. Severe gingival inflammation was not observed in any of the implant site. At every follow-up visit, every implant met the criteria of success and none was found to be failed over a 30 months duration i.e. 100% success rate was achieved by implants in immediate extraction socket. CONCLUSION: The success rate of implant survival in this study was found 100%. These implants have fulfilled all the criteria of implant success and based on the defined criteria, the success rate of implants placed in immediate extraction sockets of anterior teeth compared favorably with the conventional implants. The early results of the present study showed that high survival rates with the implants in immediate extraction sockets can be achieved.
