ABSTRACT

Host-plant associations among the 38 species of Odontothrips Amyot Serville, and features of various structural characters in this genus, are discussed. An illustrated key to 9 species occurring in Iran is provided. Two new species are described from Iran based on specimens on flowers of various Fabaceae. O. bezii sp. n. is close to O. mongolicus Pelikan, and O. pitkini sp. n. is considered as the second species in the genus that has a tooth on the distal inner side of antennal segment II.

ABSTRACT

The genus Cephalothrips Uzel is a weakly defined genus in subfamily Phlaeothripinae with its members apparently living on various dead tissues and the leaves of live plants. Two species, C. bicolor sp. n. and C. corona sp. n., are described from Iran that are remarkable for their bicoloured pattern. An illustrated key is provided for the four species recorded in Iran. Feeding behavior in the genus is discussed briefly.

ABSTRACT

Aptinothrips iraniensis sp. n. is described from northeast of Iran as the fifth species in this genus. It is closely similar to A. rufus in shape and habitat. An illustrated key is provided to the four species of Aptinothrips recorded from Iran.

ABSTRACT

An illustrated key is provided to 27 species of Aeolothrips Haliday recorded from Iran, including two new species: A. persiae sp. n. from Chenopodium album [Chenopodiaceae] and A. tatari sp. n. from Sinapis arvensis [Brassicaceae]. Variation among populations of A. tenuicornis from Iran, Europe and Mediterranean area is discussed. A. neyrizi is synonymized with A. flaviventer. An update checklist of Iranian Aeolothrips is provided.

ABSTRACT

Anaphothrips sineconus sp. n. is described as unique within the genus for the absence from antennal segment III of a sense cone and reduction in some other character states. Hyalopterothrips brunneus sp. n. is similar to H. crocatus and H. hieroglyphicus in having forked sense cones on antennal segments III-IV. Both new species are collected on the plant family Amaranthaceae in the East of Iran.

ABSTRACT

Mycterothrips doostii sp. n. and Mycterothrips zagrosi sp. n. are described and illustrated from Fars province, southern Iran, on the basis of specimens collected on green leaves of Juglans regia and Amygdalus scoparia respectively. M. doostii is closely related to M. aureus and M. weii, whereas M. zagrosi resembles M. sanubari and M. glycines in color and structure.
