ABSTRACT
O artigo celebra os 25 anos do Horto Medicinal Frei Veloso, localizado no Campus da Saúde da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, como espaïço de promoção à saúde. Na primeira parte, faz breve histórico dos jardins ou hortos botânicos que acompanham a civilização humana desde as eras mais antigas no Oriente, sua evolução ao longo dos tempos na Europa e, por fim, chegando ao Brasil. Na segunda parte, trata dos jardins e dos espaços análogos presentes em Belo Horizonte e na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, ressaltando a ligação entre os jardins botânicos e o ensino das ciências da saúde.
This article celebrates the 25th anniversary of Frei Veloso Medicinal Garden, located on the Health campus of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, as a space to promote health. The first part of this paper draws a brief history of the or of the botanical gardens that have accompanied human civilization from the earliest ages in the East, its evolution over time in Europe, and finally in Brazil. The second part deals with the gardens and similar spaces present in Belo Horizonte city and in the Federal University of Minas Gerais area, emphasizing the relation between the botanical gardens and the teaching of health sciences.
