ABSTRACT
Heterotopic tissue is a congenital anomaly that has been previously reported. Gastric and pancreatic heterotopia are among the most studied ones. Herein, we describe a case of a combined pancreatic and gastric heterotopia that formed a mass and caused a small intestine obstruction in a 61-year-old male. We also did a brief literature review of cases with gastric and pancreatic heterotopia in adult patients.
ABSTRACT
Coccidioidomycosis (CM) is an infection caused by the coccidioides fungus. The spectrum of the disease ranges from a mild upper respiratory illness to severe disseminated infection that could affects the bones, joints, skin, central nervous system, and the gastrointestinal tract. Previous reports of a positive stool culture in the setting of disseminated CM are extremely rare. Herein, we describe a case of a 43-year-old immunocompetent patient with disseminated CM and evidence of positive coccidioides stool culture.
ABSTRACT
Infections that are caused by Kluyvera bacteria have been previously reported in the medical literature; however, they seem to be less common. Herein, we report a case of urinary tract infection and severe sepsis caused by Kluyvera ascorbata in a 73-year-old female. We also did a brief literature review of infections caused by this organism in adults.
ABSTRACT
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most prevalent primary renal malignant neoplasm in adults. Most of the cases are usually found incidentally. It is commonly associated with venous thrombosis. We demonstrate a case of a RCC which was associated with an extensive thrombus that reached the upper part of the inferior vena cava (IVC). We also perform a brief literature review about the association between RCC and IVC thrombosis.
ABSTRACT
The last fifteen years have witnessed a remarkable increase in the reported cases of Lemierre's Syndrome (LS), which was once called the forgotten disease. LS manifests as oropharyngitis and a blood stream infection with Fusobacterium necrophorum and internal jugular vein thrombosis. LS is a challenge for clinicians, as it is often difficult to diagnose and is associated with significant morbidity. In recognition of the importance of raising the awareness about rare diseases, herein, we describe a case of LS in a 21-year-old male that was treated successfully after two weeks of hospitalization; we have also included a brief literature review.

Pott's disease is an infection of the spine with Mycobacterium tuberculosis that causes destruction of the spine elements resulting in progressive kyphosis. We are describing a rare case of Pott's disease where Mycobacterium xenopi was the inculpated organism.
ABSTRACT
A case of a 71-year-old male with congenital complete heart block is discussed. Patient remained asymptomatic with stable electrocardiograms.
