ABSTRACT

This work presents the investigation of physical characteristics including structural, electronic, elastic, optical and thermoelectric, of the double perovskite (DP) oxide Sr2ScBiO6 with the aid of the FP-LAPW method, dependent on DFT combined with BoltzTraP code. To incorporate the inclusion of exchange as well as correlation effects, approximations like LDA and three different forms of GGA [PBE-GGA, WC-GGA & PBEsol-GGA] are applied. The mBJ-GGA method including spin-orbital coupling (SOC) & not including SOC was utilised in this investigation and it was carried out in the WIEN2k code. In addition, the TB-mBJ exchange potential analysis classified Sr2ScBiO6 as having a p-type semiconducting nature with an indirect bandgap value of 3.327 eV. Additionally, the mechanical properties analysis and the related elastic constants demonstrate the anisotropic nature of Sr2ScBiO6 with decent mechanical stability. Apart from that, the Sr2ScBiO6 was considered a brittle non-central force solid with dominant covalent bonding. The varying optical parameter evaluations highlighted the potential use of Sr2ScBiO6 in visible-light (vis) and ultraviolet (UV)-based optoelectronic devices. Moreover, the semiconducting nature of Sr2ScBiO6 was verified through its thermoelectric response, which revealed that the charge carriers mostly consist of holes. Over a wide temperature range (100-1200 K), several transport metrics like the Seebeck coefficient (S), electrical conductivity (σ/τ), thermal conductivity (κ/τ), and power factor (PF) are investigated. An optimal value of figure of merit (ZT) ∼ 0.62 at T = 1200 K is accomplished. The extremely lower value of thermal conductivity as well as higher electrical conductivity leads to a higher figure of merit of the investigated system. The Sr2ScBiO6 verified a high ZT value, confirming that the material would be beneficial in renewable energy and thermoelectric (TE) applications.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This is a study to explore the risk perception among T2DM patients and to compare the pre-test and post-test levels of knowledge and lifestyle changes among T2DM patients at selected hospitals in Chennai. Most diabetics have type 2 diabetes, accounting for 85-90% of cases. Diabetes is a worldwide epidemic disease with distressing human, societal, and economic effects. It affects an estimated 382 million people worldwide in 2021. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The research design used mixed-method research, such as Exploratory Sequential Design. The phenomenological approach, in that sequential exploratory design for the qualitative and true experimental design for the quantitative study, was chosen. 60 samples of T2DM patients were selected using a simple random sampling technique through the lottery method and divided into experimental and control groups for every 30 samples in quantitative. Five samples were selected using convenient sampling for qualitative. RESULTS: In the quantitative study, the pre-test showed 4 (13.3%), and 5 (16.7%) adequate knowledge and lifestyle changes in both groups. Post-test experimental group showed that 23 (76.7%) had adequate knowledge and 23 (76.7%) changes in lifestyle found a drastic transformation from the pre-test as well as in the control group. The calculated Chi-square value showed a significant difference in the post-test level of lifestyle change among the T2DM patients between the groups at p<0.001 level. CONCLUSIONS: This inferred that Competent Based Intervention (CBI) on knowledge and lifestyle changes administered to T2DM patients in the experimental group was found to be effective. Competent Based Intervention is a nursing intervention that is well accepted and adopted by patients and easily implemented by nurses. It can be included in the nursing curriculum. In-service education can be arranged once a month for staff nurses and faculty members regarding Competent Based Intervention. The Nurse educator should encourage the nurses to effectively utilize research evidence-based practice related to Competent Based Intervention for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

ABSTRACT

Radiation protection is crucial for the safe utilization of ionizing radiation and minimizing the harmful effect upon exposure, hence some standards have been defined by some relevant organizations for the safe uses of radiation. One of the parameters relevant to the calculation of gamma ray shielding is the half-value layer (HVL), which is normally calculated using the knowledge of linear attenuation coefficient (µ). In this research, an attempt has been made to directly calculate HVL without the knowledge of µ via Monte Carlo simulation technique. For this purpose, in the Monte Carlo N-Particle eXtended (MCNPX) code, F1, F5 and Mesh Popul sequences tallies were defined and the optimal structure for the least measurement error was introduced. The MCNPX calculated values showed reasonable agreement with the experimental findings. According to the obtained results, it is suggested that in order to reduce the error of HVL calculations, in exchange for the MCNPX code, the values of the R parameter and the radiation angle of the source should be considered according to the calculations introduced in this plan. Because the results show that by considering the measurement error between 6 and 20%, the code output can be cited in different energy ranges.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Dental implant procedure is the most common way to restore missing teeth but also comes with several complications. Success rates for dental implants are expected to be good when proper diagnosis and planning, study of bone morphology and closeness of implant with vital structures, such as nerves and blood vessels, are made pre-surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 636 adult patients, aged 18-80 years old, that came for dental implants in screening clinics or referred to specialty clinics in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the year 2019 to 2020. Instead of conventional Computed Tomography (CT), Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) X-Rays have been used to evaluate mandibular lingual concavities. RESULTS: Prevalence and measurement of lingual concavities were determined. Type U mandibles with a lingual concavity, were found to have a higher chance of lingual cortical plate but this may still vary on factors such as type of population and ethnicity. The typical finding in the mandibular posterior region is the lingual undercut. CONCLUSIONS: CBCT is a great tool used to study mandibular lingual concavities and it is essential prior the installation of dental implant to prevent life-threatening complications.

ABSTRACT

The cascading 3.21 and 4.44 MeV electric quadrupole transitions have been observed from the Hoyle state at 7.65 MeV excitation energy in ^{12}C, excited by the ^{12}C(p,p^{'}) reaction at 10.7 MeV proton energy. From the proton-γ-γ triple coincidence data, a value of Γ_{rad}/Γ=6.2(6)×10^{-4} was obtained for the radiative branching ratio. Using our results, together with Γ_{π}^{E0}/Γ from Eriksen et al. [Phys. Rev. C 102, 024320 (2020)PRVCAN2469-998510.1103/PhysRevC.102.024320] and the currently adopted Γ_{π}(E0) values, the radiative width of the Hoyle state is determined as Γ_{rad}=5.1(6)×10^{-3} eV. This value is about 34% higher than the currently adopted value and will impact models of stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis.
