ABSTRACT

Here we present two clinical cases of solitary naso-sinusal fibrous tumour. This tumour has a mesenchymal origin and has an evident pleural location, with well defined immunohistochemical and ultrastructural characteristics. The clinical manifestation is an apparent benign tumour with an inclination to local aggressiveness. The most effective treatment seems to be surgical removal, but given the low number of cases mentioned (there are only eight cases reported in international literature), and the tendency to eventual recurrence, called for cobalt therapy after surgery. The evolution of clinical cases is irregular.

ABSTRACT

Over the last decade, the hemangioma of the temporal bone has become clinically recognized as the benign tumor most commonly involving the facial nerve in its intratemporal portion. Its locally aggressive nature affects the VIIth cranial nerve at a very early stage, usually before the tumor reaches a 10 mm diameter. We present a case of ossifying hemangioma of the temporal bone which, in spite of being located in the region of the geniculate ganglion and of measuring over 20 mm, only caused hearing conductive loss. The atypical clinical course of this case contrasts with those described in the literature.

ABSTRACT

Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is a severe, often fulminant, infection. However, there is evidence of more benign mucormycosis limited to paranasal sinuses and the orbit. We report a case of paranasal mucormycosis treated successfully with endoscopic nasosinusal surgery and amphotericin B.

ABSTRACT

It has been made a review of 238 myringoplasties done in the last three years (1988-90) at the Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital. In this work are only contemplated the plain myringoplasties. Tympanoplasties because cholesteatoma and ossiculoplasties are excluded. Some characteristics are studied: age, sex, ear state, kind of perforation, ossicular chain state and others. Anatomical and functional results are analyzed as also the relationship between the type of perforation with the audiometric loose and anatomic success.
