ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Individuals who have experienced stroke may benefit from dual-task related training to improve gait speed performance. Whether noted improvements reflect true effects on gait or cognitive-motor trade-offs still remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of dual-task training on dual-task effects of both walking and cognitive domains in stroke survivors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-four individuals with stroke were randomized to dual-task or single-task training groups. Both groups exercised three 60-minute sessions per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcomes were dual-task effects on gait speed and cognitive score. Outcomes were assessed before and after the intervention and 1-month follow-up. RESULTS: While both groups exhibited improvement in absolute gait speed under dual-task conditions, the dual-task training group demonstrated superior results by providing an additional gain on dual-task effects of gait speed. Compared to single-task training, dual-task training exhibited a significant improvement in dual-task effects of gait speed at post-treatment and follow-up. Regarding the dual-task effects on cognitive scores, no significant differences within and between groups after training were observed. CONCLUSION: Dual-task training enhances immediate and retained effects on the dual-task effects of gait speed in individuals with stroke, not by cognitive-motor trade-offs. Dual-task interference during walking has important consequences for stroke survivors to walk safely.Multimodal training with dual-task enhances immediate and retained effects on the dual-task effects of gait speed in individuals with stroke, not by cognitive-motor trade-offs.Clinicians are encouraged to incorporate multimodal training with dual-task into the exercise routines to enhance walking under dual-task conditions in stroke survivors.

ABSTRACT

The electrochemical nitrate (NO3 - ) reduction reaction (NO3 RR) to ammonia (NH3 ) represents a sustainable approach for denitrification to balance global nitrogen cycles and an alternative to traditional thermal Haber-Bosch processes. Here, we present a supramolecular strategy for promoting NH3 production in water from NO3 RR by integrating two-dimensional (2D) molecular cobalt porphyrin (CoTPP) units into a three-dimensional (3D) porous organic cage architecture. The porphyrin box CoPB-C8 enhances electrochemical active site exposure, facilitates substrate-catalyst interactions, and improves catalyst stability, leading to turnover numbers and frequencies for NH3 production exceeding 200,000 and 56 s-1 , respectively. These values represent a 15-fold increase in NO3 RR activity and 200-mV improvement in overpotential for the 3D CoPB-C8 box structure compared to its 2D CoTPP counterpart. Synthetic tuning of peripheral alkyl substituents highlights the importance of supramolecular porosity and cavity size on electrochemical NO3 RR activity. These findings establish the incorporation of 2D molecular units into 3D confined space microenvironments as an effective supramolecular design strategy for enhancing electrocatalysis.

ABSTRACT

The catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) using sustainable energy inputs is a promising strategy for upcycling of atmospheric carbon into value-added chemical products. This goal has inspired the development of catalysts for selective and efficient CO2 conversion using electrochemical and photochemical methods. Among the diverse array of catalyst systems designed for this purpose, 2D and 3D platforms that feature porosity offer the potential to combine carbon capture and conversion. Included are covalent organic frameworks (COFs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), porous molecular cages, and other hybrid molecular materials developed to increase active site exposure, stability, and water compatibility while maintaining precise molecular tunability. This mini-review showcases catalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR) that incorporate well-defined molecular elements integrated into porous materials structures. Selected examples provide insights into how different approaches to this overall design strategy can augment their electrocatalytic and/or photocatalytic CO2 reduction activity.

ABSTRACT

We present a supramolecular approach to catalyzing photochemical CO2 reduction through second-sphere porosity and charge effects. An iron porphyrin box (PB) bearing 24 cationic groups, FePB-2(P), was made via post-synthetic modification of an alkyne-functionalized supramolecular synthon. FePB-2(P) promotes the photochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR) with 97 % selectivity for CO product, achieving turnover numbers (TON) exceeding 7000 and initial turnover frequencies (TOFmax ) reaching 1400 min-1 . The cooperativity between porosity and charge results in a 41-fold increase in activity relative to the parent Fe tetraphenylporphyrin (FeTPP) catalyst, which is far greater than analogs that augment catalysis through porosity (FePB-3(N), 4-fold increase) or charge (Fe p-tetramethylanilinium porphyrin (Fe-p-TMA), 6-fold increase) alone. This work establishes that synergistic pendants in the secondary coordination sphere can be leveraged as a design element to augment catalysis at primary active sites within confined spaces.

BACKGROUND: Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a catastrophic complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) with high mortality. Our aim is to develop a novel noninvasive microRNA (miRNA) test for EPS. METHODS: We collected 142 PD effluents (EPS: 62 and non-EPS:80). MiRNA profiles of PD effluents were examined by a high-throughput real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) array to first screen. Candidate miRNAs were verified by single real-time PCR. The model for EPS prediction was evaluated by multiple logistic regression and machine learning. RESULTS: Seven candidate miRNAs were identified from the screening of PCR-array of 377 miRNAs. The top five area under the curve (AUC) values with 5 miRNA-ratios were selected using 127 samples (EPS: 56 vs non-EPS: 71) to produce a receiver operating characteristic curve. After considering clinical characteristics and 5 miRNA-ratios, the accuracies of the machine learning model of Random Forest and multiple logistic regression were boosted to AUC 0.97 and 0.99, respectively. Furthermore, the pathway analysis of miRNA associated targeting genes and miRNA-compound interaction network revealed that these five miRNAs played the roles in TGF-ß signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: The model-based miRNA expressions in PD effluents may help determine the probability of EPS and provide further therapeutic opinion for EPS.

ABSTRACT

Despite paramount applications of chiral trifluoromethylated compounds in medicinal chemistry and materials science, limited strategies have been developed for catalytic asymmetric synthesis of such valuable fluorinated structures. Here, we report a nickel catalyzed enantioselective dicarbofunctionalization of inexpensive industrial chemical 3,3,3-trifluoropropene (TFP) with readily available tertiary alkyl and aryl iodides. The reaction overcomes the ß-F elimination side reaction of TFP, and proceeds efficiently under mild reaction conditions. The protocol possesses advantages, such as synthetic convenience, high enantioselectivity, and excellent functional group tolerance, providing rapid and straightforward access to chiral trifluoromethylated compounds of medicinal interest.

BACKGROUND: Poor oral health has been widely recognised as an ongoing public health issue. Patients with oral conditions may visit either a general practitioner (GP) or a dental practitioner for management. The aims of this study are to report (i) the GP management rate of oral health conditions by patient and GP demographics, (ii) what specific oral conditions were managed, and (iii) how GPs managed oral conditions. METHODS: Data from the Bettering the Evaluation and Care of Health study (2006 to 2016 inclusive) were analysed. Descriptive statistics with 95% confidence intervals around point estimates were used to summarise data. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to determine the independent effect of patient and GP characteristics. RESULTS: A total of 972,100 GP encounters were included in the dataset, with oral condition-related encounters managed at a rate of 1.19 oral conditions per 100 GP encounters. Patients who were aged 54 years or younger, resided in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area, came from a non-English speaking background or Indigenous background were more likely to have oral conditions managed by GPs. The most commonly reported oral conditions were dental and oral mucosa-related. Over 60% of oral conditions were managed by GPs through prescribed medications. CONCLUSIONS: This study provided an overview of management of oral conditions by GPs in Australia. Patients from certain vulnerable demographic groups were more likely to attend a GP for management of oral conditions. Common oral conditions and management approaches were identified. The findings of this study contribute to public health and health policy discussions around optimising primary care provision in oral health.

ABSTRACT

Microenvironments tailored by multifunctional secondary coordination sphere groups can enhance catalytic performance at primary metal active sites in natural systems. Here, we capture this biological concept in synthetic systems by developing a family of iron porphyrins decorated with imidazolium (im) pendants for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR), which promotes multiple synergistic effects to enhance CO2 RR and enables the disentangling of second-sphere contributions that stem from each type of interaction. Fe-ortho-im(H), which poises imidazolium units featuring both positive charge and hydrogen-bond capabilities proximal to the active iron center, increases CO2 binding affinity by 25-fold and CO2 RR activity by 2000-fold relative to the parent Fe tetraphenylporphyrin (Fe-TPP). Comparison with monofunctional analogs reveals that through-space charge effects have a greater impact on catalytic CO2 RR performance compared to hydrogen bonding in this context.

ABSTRACT

Microscopy by Achromatic X-rays With Emission of Laminar Light (MAXWELL) is a new X-ray/visible technique with attractive characteristics including isotropic resolution in all directions, large-volume imaging and high throughput. An ultrathin, laminar X-ray beam produced by a Wolter type I mirror irradiates the sample stimulating the emission of visible light by scintillating nanoparticles, captured by an optical system. Three-dimensional (3D) images are obtained by scanning the specimen with respect to the laminar beam. We implemented and tested the technique with a high-brightness undulator at SPring-8, demonstrating its validity for a variety of specimens. This work was performed under the Synchrotrons for Neuroscience-an Asia-Pacific Strategic Enterprise (SYNAPSE) collaboration.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To analyze the clinical characteristics, surgical outcomes, and risk factors associated with visual outcomes in patients with abusive head trauma (AHT). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed surgical outcomes of patients with AHT who underwent vitrectomy from 2001 to 2019. The patients' demographics, comprehensive preoperative and postoperative ocular findings, surgical treatments, visual outcomes, and postoperative complications in the medical records were reviewed. Univariable and multivariable analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors associated with visual outcomes. RESULTS: Fourteen children (18 eyes) diagnosed with AHT who underwent vitrectomy were evaluated. The most common surgical indication was vitreous hemorrhage (n = 6, 33%). Retinal attachment at the final visit was noted in 17 eyes (94%). Thirteen eyes (72%) had a best-corrected visual acuity less than 20/200 after vitrectomy. In the multivariable analysis, optic nerve atrophy (n = 9, 50%) was significantly associated with a poor visual prognosis (final best-corrected visual acuity worse than 20/200) after vitrectomy in children with AHT (95% confidence interval, 1.041-517.963, P = 0.0471). CONCLUSION: The general visual prognosis was poor for patients with AHT needing vitrectomy, although a high rate of retinal attachment was observed. Optic nerve atrophy is a prognostic factor for poor visual outcomes in patients with AHT who received ophthalmic surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Learning through international experience has been well documented in USA literature, yet not well explored in Australia. The aim of this study is to understand Australian dental students' experiences and perceptions of international dental experience by: (i) capturing past participation; (ii) identifying potential interests for participants who have not been on a trip and (iii) ascertaining perceived benefits of the trip/s. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 19 question paper survey was distributed to 310 eligible undergraduate dental students of The University of Queensland (UQ). An online counterpart survey was created via Google Forms and promoted on relevant Facebook groups targeted at current dental students of UQ. RESULTS: A total of 203 of the 310 eligible UQ undergraduate dental students responded to the distributed paper and electronic surveys making the response rate 65.5%. A total of 13 undergraduate respondents participated in an international experience trip. The majority of respondents who had not participated in an international dental experience trip were interested in participating in one. Education (84.6%) and improved dental skills (84.6%) were the most reported perceived benefits by the students who had participated in an international dental experience. CONCLUSION: A majority of respondents were interested in participating in international dental experiences. Despite this, only 1 in 15 respondents had participated in an international dental experience. Further exploration of this concept is needed; however, dental schools within Australia could potentially explore integration of international short-term dental experiences into formal curricula in the future.

BACKGROUND: Continuous passive motion device (CPM) provides repetitive movement over extended periods of time for those who have low functional ability. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effects of a four-week program of continuous passive motion of the ankle joint on the changes in soleus hypertonia in individuals with cerebral palsy who suffered from life-long hypertonia. METHODS: A single group, repeated-measures study was conducted. Eight individuals (7 males and 1 female with a mean age of 21.8 ± 8.5 years) with spastic cerebral palsy underwent bilateral ankle CPM for 1 h a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. The outcome measures included the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) score, passive range of motion (PROM) of the ankle, the ratio of maximum H reflex to maximum soleus M-response (H/M ratio), and post-activation depression (PAD). All outcomes were measured before and after the intervention. A paired t-test was used to examine treatment effects pre-versus post-intervention. RESULTS: Paired t-tests showed that the CPM program significantly decreased the MAS score (p = 0.006), decreased the maximum H/M ratio (p=0.001), improved PAD (p = 0.003, p = 0.040, and p = 0.032 at 0.2 Hz, 1 Hz, and 2 Hz, respectively), and increased the passive ankle range of motion (p = 0.049). CONCLUSION: Ankle CPM not only reduced soleus hypertonia but also improved the PROM in individuals with cerebral palsy. The results of this study show ankle CPM to be an effective intervention for individuals with cerebral palsy.

ABSTRACT

Immune checkpoint inhibitors are a promising therapy for the treatment of cancers, including melanoma, that improved benefit clinical outcomes. However, a subset of melanoma patients do not respond or acquire resistance to immunotherapy, which limits their clinical applicability. Recent studies have explored the reasons related to the resistance of melanoma to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Of note, miRNAs are the regulators of not only cancer progression but also of the response between cancer cells and immune cells. Investigation of miRNA functions within the tumor microenvironment have suggested that miRNAs could be considered as key partners in immunotherapy. Here, we reviewed the known mechanism by which melanoma induces resistance to immunotherapy and the role of miRNAs in immune responses and the microenvironment.

ABSTRACT

Urothelial carcinoma is a common urological cancer in chronic kidney disease patients. Cystoscopy and urine cytology are the clinical diagnostic tools for UC. However, cystoscopy is an invasive procedure, while urine cytology showed low sensitivity for low-grade urothelial tumors. High accuracy with non-invasive tools for UC is needed for CKD patients. Our study collected a total of 272 urine and 138 plasma samples to detect the miRNA expression levels for establishing UC signatures from CKD patients. Seventeen candidate miRNAs of biofluids were selected and confirmed by qRT-PCR. Our results showed that urinary miR-1274a and miR-30a-5p expression levels were significantly lower but miR-19a-5p expression levels were higher in UC when compared with CKD. In plasma samples, miR-155-5p, miR-19b-1-5p, miR-378, and miR-636 showed significantly lower expression in UC compared to those with CKD. The Kaplan-Meier curve showed that lower expression of miR-19a, miR-19b, miR-636 and miR-378, and higher expression of miR-708-5p were associated with poor prognosis in patients with bladder cancer. In addition, we produced classifiers for predicting UC by multiple logistic regression. The urine signature was developed with four miRNAs, and the AUC was 0.8211. Eight miRNA expression levels from both urine and plasma samples were examined, and the AUC was 0.8595. Two miRNA classifiers and the nomograms could improve the drawbacks of current UC biomarker screenings for patients with CKD.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of Gap Balancing (GB) versus Measured Resection (MR) techniques on the early clinical and radiological results of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS: In this prospective study, 99 patients (99 knees) who underwent unilateral TKA between March 2018 and January 2019 were randomly allocated to one of two groups: The GP group, TKA with GB technique (19 male, 31 female; mean age = 55.9 ±16.5) and the MR group, TKA with MR technique (19 male, 30 female; mean age = 54.2 ± 18.7). Patients in both groups were comparable in terms of the demographic and clinical data. The angle of cutting block to PCA and Cutting Thickness of the Medial and Lateral Condyle (CTMC, CTLC) were intraoperatively measured. In radiographic analysis, Preoperative Mechanical Femorotibial Angle (Pre-mFTA), Postoperative Mechanical Femorotibial Angle (Post-mFTA), and joint line changes were examined. Femoral component Rotation Angle (FCRA) was also measured by computed tomography. In gait analysis, the spatiotemporal parameters (walking speed, step length, and single support time) and kinematics parameters (flexion angle, extension angle, and transversal rotation) were collected at 12 months postoperatively. Furthermore, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) were performed at 12 months after surgery. RESULTS: CTMC and CTLC were both significantly higher in GB group than in the MR group (9.8±2.0 mm vs 8.5 ± 1.2 mm; 7.9 ± 1.8mm vs 6.8 ± 1.4mm; P = 0.001, P = 0.002, respectively). Angle of cutting block to PCA was statistically lower in GB group than in the MR group (1.7 ± 1.5° vs 3.1 ± 0.5 °; P < 0.001). FCRA is greater in the GB group compared to the MR group, but the difference did not reach statistical significance (1.2 ± 2.8 ° vs 0.7 ± 2.0 °; P > 0.05). Although post-mFTA significantly improved compared with pre-mFTA in both groups, no significant difference was observed in the changes of post-mFTA between the two groups (0.9 ± 1.7° vs 0.3 ± 1.8°, P > 0.05). No significant differences were determined between the two groups in spatiotemporal gait parameters including walking speed, step length, and single support time. The sagittal max knee flexion range was significantly larger in the GB group than in the MR group (49.27 ± 5.24 ° vs 45.99 ± 8.21 °, P < 0.05). The flexion range did not reach the level of the control group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in WOMAC at 12 months follow-up (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Evidence from this study has revealed GB and MR techniques have both little effect on early clinical results of TKA. Nonetheless, GB technique can provide better knee flexion in the early postoperative gait status compared with MR technique. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level I, Therapeutic Study.

ABSTRACT

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the principal growth factor responsible for the retinal neovascularization in the pathogenesis of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Current therapies for ROP include laser ablation and intravitreal anti-VEGF injection. However, these treatments either destroy the peripheral retina or associate with problems of persistent peripheral avascular retina or later recurrence of ROP. In the present study we investigated a new therapeutic approach by exploring the potential role of a specific microRNA, miR-126, in regulating VEGFA expression and retinal neovascularization in a rat oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) model. We demonstrated that miR-126 mimic and plasmid effectively suppresses VEGFA mRNA expression in both human and rat retinal pigment epithelium cell lines, quantified with qRT-PCR. Animal experiments on rat OIR model revealed that intravitreal injection of miR-126 plasmid efficiently downregulated VEGFA expression in the intraocular fluid and retinal tissues measured by ELISA, and significantly suppressed retinal neovascularization, which was confirmed by calculating sizes of neovascularization areas on fluorescence microscopic images of flat mounted retina stained with Alexa Fluor 594-conjugated isolectin B4 to visualize blood vessels. Together, these results showed that intravitreal injection of miR-126 plasmid could inhibit retinal neovascularization by down-regulating VEGFA expression, suggesting a potential therapeutic effect for ROP.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: To analyze multiple imaging modalities in patients with Bietti crystalline dystrophy (BCD) and to investigate which factors from these modalities are associated with best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). METHODS: In this retrospective study, 40 eyes from 22 patients with BCD were included and were separated into group 1 (BCVA ≤20/200) and group 2 (BCVA > 20/200). Data including BCVA and characteristic findings from near-infrared reflectance (NIR) imaging, fundus autofluorescence (FAF), and spectral domain-optic coherence tomography (SD-OCT) were analyzed and compared. The outcome measures of multimodal imaging were evaluated for correlation with BCVA. RESULTS: NIR is a good diagnostic tool for detecting either crystalline or sclerotic vessels in BCD. Patients in group 1 tended to have a thinner choroid (P = 0.047) with ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption (P = 0.011). Calculation of the area under the curve indicated that EZ disruption detected on SD-OCT could be a good predictor of legal blindness in BCD. CONCLUSION: For the diagnosis of BCD, NIR could be a good diagnostic tool. Of the studied imaging modalities, we found that EZ disruption at the fovea were strongly associated with legal blindness, which could be easily assessed by SD-OCT.

ABSTRACT

Although a significant proportion of patient falls occur during egress from the hospital bed, the biomechanical adaptations during egress from different bed heights are still largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of hospital bed height on natural transition during egress in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Twelve patients with PD and fourteen healthy elderly adults (HEA) were recruited and the natural transition during egress from three different bed heights (low, medium and high) were recorded for each participant using a motion capture system and force plates. The bed egress time, joint kinematics, ground reaction force and center of mass (CoM) were compared using a two-factor repeated ANOVA to determine the effects of three bed heights and two groups. The results showed that patients with PD had a significantly increased bed egress time, decreased peak of pelvis anterior tilt, hip flexion, and anteroposterior distance between pelvis center and CoM compared to HEA. Additionally, both PD and HEA groups increased the peak of trunk, hip and knee flexions to generate forward CoM momentum and joint torque to rise from a low bed height. These findings indicated that patients with PD invoked a more conservative movement pattern than HEA during egress to improve postural stability. The low bed height increased demands of balance and postural control during egress which exacerbates the risk of falls for patients with PD.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effects of growth factors and internal limiting membrane components on Müller cell migration. We studied the effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), somatomedin (IGF-1), platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), and stromal cell-derived factor-1 alpha (SDF-1α) as well as collagen IV, laminin, and fibronectin on the proliferative and migratory activities of rat Müller cells in vitro. A water soluble tetrazolium-1 assay was used to quantify the viability of Müller cells in respective cultures, and analysis was performed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay reader. All the factors examined had significant proliferative effects on cultured Müller cells (p < .05). A two-well Ibidi silicone culture insert was used to assess Müller cell migration. Müller cells cultured in EGF, FGF, IGF-1, collagen IV, and laminin but not in SDF, PDGF, or fibronectin effectively increased the cell migratory activity (p < .001). In addition, combined EGF and collagen IV, combined FGF and collagen IV, and combined IGF-1 and laminin exhibited more significant (p < .001) effects on Müller cell migration compared with culture a single factor. In summary, this study revealed the combinatorial effects of various growth factors and individual internal limiting membrane constituents. This may assist Müller cell migration together with the macular hole healing process.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To report the anatomic and functional outcomes of autologous retinal transplantation (ART). DESIGN: Multicenter, retrospective, interventional, consecutive case series. PARTICIPANTS: One hundred thirty eyes of 130 patients undergoing ART for the repair of primary and refractory macular holes (MHs), as well as combined MH-rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (MH-RRD), between January 2017 and December 2019. METHODS: All patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy and ART, with surgeon modification of intraoperative variables. A large array of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative data was collected. Two masked reviewers graded OCT images. Multivariate statistical analysis and subgroup analysis were performed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Macular hole closure rate, visual acuity (VA), external limiting membrane and ellipsoid zone (EZ) band integrity, and alignment of neurosensory layers (ANL) on OCT. RESULTS: One hundred thirty ART surgeries were performed by 33 vitreoretinal surgeons worldwide. Patient demographics were: mean age of 63 ± 6.3 years, 58% female, 41% White, 23% Black, 19% Asian, and 17% Latino. Preoperative VA was 1.37 ± 0.12 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR; Snellen equivalent, approximately 20/500), which improved significantly to 1.05 ± 0.09 logMAR (Snellen equivalent, approximately 20/225; P < 0.001) after surgery (mean follow-up, 8.6 ± 0.8 months). Autologous retinal transplantation was performed for primary MH repair in 27% of patients (n = 35), for refractory MH in 58% of patients (n = 76; mean number of previous surgeries, 1.6 ± 0.2), and for MH-RRD in 15% of patients (n = 19). Mean maximum MH diameter was 1470 ± 160 µm, mean minimum diameter was 840 ± 94 µm, and mean axial length was 24.6 ± 3.2 mm. Overall, 89% of MHs closed (78.5% complete; 10% small eccentric defect), with a 95% closure rate in MH-RRD (68.4% complete; 26.3% small eccentric defect). Visual acuity improved by at least 3 lines in 43% of eyes and by at least 5 lines in 29% of eyes. Reconstitution of the EZ (P = 0.02) and ANL (P = 0.01) on OCT were associated with better final VA. Five cases of ART graft dislocation (3.8%), 5 cases of postoperative retinal detachment (3.8%), and 1 case of endophthalmitis (0.77%) occurred. CONCLUSIONS: In this global experience, patients undergoing ART for large primary and refractory MHs and MH-RRDs achieved good anatomic and functional outcomes, with low complication rates despite complex surgical pathologic features.
