ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the application and clinical effect of stromal vascular fraction gel (SVF-gel) in local rhinoplasty. Methods:A total of 84 patients with mild nasal root and low bridge were divided into observation group and control group. In the observation group, liposuction with SVF gel extraction plus injection rhinoplasty was carried out; in the control group, liposuction plus injection rhinoplasty was carried out according to the height change of nasal root and bridge, the change of nasal frontal angle, the occurrence of complications and the satisfaction of patients after operation. Results:The 84 patients were followed up for 2 weeks to 24 months. The height of nasal root and bridge increased significantly and the lines were more harmonious. The absorption of the observation group was much lower than that of control group. Except 3 patients in the observation group and 8 patients in the control group, there were different degrees of absorption within 6 months after operation. All patients did not have complications such as fat liquefaction, necrosis, induration and infection in the injection area. Three patients in the observation group were satisfied with the results after reinjection, and one patient in the control group was satisfied with the results after reinjection, three patients were not satisfied with the results, and four patients were satisfied with the prosthesis augmentation rhinoplasty. In the observation group, there were 37 cases of excellent satisfaction, 5 cases of good satisfaction, and the overall satisfaction was 100%; in the control group, there were 20 cases of excellent satisfaction, 15 cases of good satisfaction, 7 cases of bad satisfaction, and the satisfaction was 83.3%. The former was better than the latter. Conclusions:In view of superiorities such as lower complications with long-lasting effect, high fat survival rate and high satisfaction in local augmentation rhinoplasty, SVF-gel injection is especially suitable for patients who cannot accept autologous bone, prosthesis and allograft tissue filler for augmentation rhinoplasty.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of levator muscle resection combined with Mustarde's double Z-plasty to correct blepharophimosis-ptosis-epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES). Methods: Between March 2015 and June 2017, one-stage operation of levator muscle resection combined with Mustarde's double Z-plasty were performed on 26 children with bilateral BPES. There were 16 boys and 10 girls with an average age of 7 years (range, 4-14 years). All patients marked the four typical signs of BPES. There were 7 cases accompanied with a low nasal bridge, and 20 cases with amblyopia and strabismus. The length of eye fissure was (19.5±4.5) mm, the width of eye fissure was (2.5±1.6) mm, the diameter of inner canthus was (42.1±6.5) mm, and the muscular strength of levator palpebrae superioris was (5.5±1.3) mm. Results: All the incisions healed by first intention. Twenty-three patients were followed up 2-12 months, with an average of 10 months. Among which, 2 cases were less corrected, 3 cases were over corrected, 6 cases had poor curvature of the eyelid. No eyelid internal and external pronation or keratitis occurred. Amelioration of blepharoptosis and epicanthus was achieved in the other patients, and the double eyelid fold was naturally smooth. At 7 days after operation, the length of eye fissure was (27.2±1.9) mm, the width of eye fissure was (12.5±1.3) mm, and diameter of inner canthus was (29.4±2.6) mm, which were superior to preoperative values ( t=0.127, P=0.042; t=0.341, P=0.029; t=0.258, P=0.038). There was no angular deformity caused by the width and length regressions of eye fissures. Conclusion: The levator muscle resection combined with Mustarde's double Z-plasty can effectively correct BPES and obtain good effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To prove the clinical efficacy of umbilicus application of Huobi Powder for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) with the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome of kidney deficiency dampness by related clinical indexes. METHODS: This randomized controlled double-blind clinical study included 72 ED patients with the TCM syndrome of kidney deficiency dampness treated by 12-hour application of Huobi Powder (the trial group, n = 36) or placebo (the control group, n = 36) to the umbilicus qd for 28 consecutive days. We recorded the IIEF-5 and Erection Quality Scale (EQS) scores, TCM syndrome indexes, radial rigidity of the erectile penis, and the angle of penile erection before and after treatment. We established a database with the collected data and performed statistical analysis with the SPSS21.0 software. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were observed after treatment between the trial and control groups in the TCM syndrome-based efficacy (69.44% vs 36.11%, P <0.01) and Western medicine-based clinical effectiveness (77.78% vs 36.11%, P <0.01). The trial group, as compared with the control, showed remarkably decreased TCM syndrome indexes (18.19 ± 9.12 vs 12.97 ± 11.92, P <0.05), increased IIEF-5 score (13.83 ± 4.91 vs 18.67 ± 3.09, P <0.01), radial rigidity of the erectile penis (ï¼»53.43 ± 11.05ï¼½% vs ï¼»71.96 ± 12.92ï¼½%, P <0.01) and the angle of penile erection (ï¼»42.15 ± 11.77ï¼½% vs ï¼»66.96 ± 12.34ï¼½%, P <0.01), but no significant difference in the EQS score (37.11 ± 16.70 vs 35.33 ± 14.11, P >0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Umbilicus application of Huobi Powder has a definite clinical effect on ED with the TCM syndrome of kidney deficiency dampness.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Earthquakes and other catastrophic events frequently occurring worldwide can be considered as outliers and cause a growing and urgent need to improve our understanding of the negative effects imposed by such disasters. Earthquakes can intensively impact the birth outcomes upon psychological and morphological development of the unborn children, albeit detailed characteristics remain obscure. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We utilized the birth records at Du Jiang Yan and Peng Zhou counties to investigate the birth outcomes as a consequence of a major earthquake occurred in Wenchuan, China on May 12, 2008. Totally 13,003 of neonates were recorded, with 6638 and 6365 for pre- and post- earthquake, respectively. Significant low birthweight, high ratio of low birthweight, and low Apgar scores of post-earthquake group were observed. In contrast, the sex ratio at birth, birth length and length of gestation did not show statistical differences. The overall ratio of birth-defect in the post-earthquake (1.18%) is statistically high than that of pre-earthquake (0.99%), especially for those in the first trimester on earthquake day (1.47%). The birth-defect spectrum was dramatically altered after earthquake, with the markedly increased occurrences of ear malformations. The ratio of preterm birth post-earthquake (7.41%) is significant increased than that of pre-earthquake (5.63%). For the birth outcomes of twins, significant differences of the ratio of twins, birth weight, ratio of low birthweight and birth-defect rate were observed after earthquake. CONCLUSION: A hospital-based study of birth outcomes impacted by the Wenchuan earthquake shows that the earthquake was associated with significant effects on birth outcomes, indicating it is a major monitor for long-term pregnant outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the blood_flow_activating and blood_stasis_removi ng actions of Qushang Tablet (QT) and its safety. Methods Thirty rats were randomly allocated to Group A (normal control), Group B (models control) and G r oup C (treated with QT). Rat models with traumatic blood_stasis syndrome were in duc ed by the bruise of falling iron hammer. Effects of QT on blood rheology of rat model were studied. Acute and chronic toxic effect of QT was also studied. Res ults QT had obvious effect on blood rheology of rat model and could improve th e concentration, viscosity, aggregation and coagulability of blood. No acute and chronic toxic effect of QT was found. Conclusion QT exerts obvious blood_fl ow_activating and blood_stasis_removing actions and is safe to be applied in cli nic.
