[Diagnostic methods in the isolation of Campylobacter in animals, animal foods and man]. / Considerazioni sulle metodologie diagnostiche nella ricerca del Campylobacter in animali, in alimenti di origine animale, nell'uomo.

We report some techniques for the enrichment-broths and for the isolation-media in the research of thermophilic Campylobacter, over all in animal's foods; moreover we have compared four commercial media for direct isolation of this bacterium. We think that it is useful, as in alimentary as in animal and human microbiology, the research of Campylobacter utilizing selective and specific enrichments; for the isolation of Campylobacter we prefer the temperature of 42 degrees C in respect of 37 degrees C, always in microaerophilic systems. We haven't observed significant differences using the four commercial plates, but we think that in would be better prepare it laboratory the selective media for the goal.

[Occurrence of chemical and antibiotic resistance of non-human Salmonella serotypes]. / Frequenze e chemioantibioticoresistenze di sierotipi di Salmonella non umani.

A survey on Salmonella serotypes isolated from livestock, foods of animal origin and surface waters has been performed by the Reference Center for Enterobacteria of Northern Italy in cooperation with the Multi-Regional Veterinary Public Health Laboratories of Northern Italy, and the results were compared with the range of Salmonella isolates from humans. Major differences have resulted in the frequencies of the different serotypes, being Group B serotypes by far less frequently isolated from humans. Nevertheless, S. typhi-murium was the individual serotype prevalent in both sources. A selected group of strains, of either origin, has been tested for chemo-antibiotic resistance, which showed to be more widespread in the non-human strains.
