La publicación en 1979 del famoso análisis del Sr. Z por Heinz Kohut, considerado por sus colegas y allegados como su propio análisis, se convierte en el campo de batalla de la Self Psychology de Kohut frente a la Ego Psychology dominante en esa época en los EE. UU. Valorización de la problemática transferencial en detrimento del poder de la doctrina, relevancia de Narciso y depreciación del Edipo, de las pulsiones y del inconsciente, ¿se trata de una nueva adaptabilidad del psicoanálisis por razones culturales? The publication in 1979 of the famous analysis of Mr. Z by Heinz Kohut, regarded by his family as his own analysis, becomes the battlefield of kohutian Self Psychology against the Ego Psychology, that prevailed until that time in the United States. Valorization of the transference question at the expense of doctrinal power, highlighting of the Narcissus and devaluation of Oedipus, drive and unconscious, was it finally one more adaptive renewal of psychoanalysis for cultural reasons?
