ABSTRACT

Cell replacement and restorative therapies have great perspectives in the treatment of various diseases and traumas. Various types of stem cells, most different in the biological properties, are evaluated as the potential substrates of cell therapy for such diseases. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) posses relatively high proliferative activity and high level of plasticity, and can be differentiated not only to the cells of the mesenchymal lineage, but also to the neurons. Among the MSC populations, a population of endometrial stem cells, including that present in the menstrual blood, is available most readily. In the current study, we analyze biological properties of the menstrual blood stem cells and evaluate those cells as a potential substrate of cell therapy.

ABSTRACT

Ceramic materials are increasingly used in dentistry, because of their excellent biocompatibility. Zirconia based ceramic is unique among others due to its high flexural strength. This study examined physical and mechanical properties, as well as toxic and sanitary-chemical characteristics of zirconia based ceramics to select optimum compositions, in comply with the relevant requirements for medical consumables, particularly with materials for all-ceramic frameworks. The initial powders were synthesized in the systems ZrO2-Y2O3 (I), ZrO2-Yb2O3 (II), ZrO2-Y2O3-Yb2O3 (III). Four different zirconia based ceramics were investigated. We studied specific surface of powders, phase composition of the samples, relative density and porosity, flexural strength, fracture toughness, microstructure at x10 000 magnification. Toxicological and sanitary-chemical tests were conducted in accordance with ISO10993, GOST 52770-2007, GOST R 51148-98, GN 2.3.3.972-00 etc.

ABSTRACT

The characteristics of the following domestic alloys of noble metals for fixed and removable dentures are given: alloys for metal-ceramic dentures--"Superpal", "Super KM"; alloys for clasp dental prostheses--"Super LB"; solders--"Becadent" and "Super VP"; alloy for castings and metal-composite constructions "Super TZ" and material for electrochemical gold cover "Super KEMZ". The above alloys open wide perspectives in the field of prosthetic treatment of main dental diseases due to their unique properties--high functional efficacy, longevity and biological inactivity.

ABSTRACT

Toxic characteristics of Superpal, a dental palladium-based alloy for cermet dentures, were studied in a chronic experiment on 20 rats to which it was subcutaneously implanted. Analysis of histological findings, blood biochemistry, mast cell degranulation test, summarization of subthreshold pulses, and the micronucleus test showed that Superpal alloy is biologically inert, nontoxic, exerts no sensitizing and mutagenic effects, and may be used for making cement dentures.

ABSTRACT

Positive follow-up results achieved in patients with metal-glass ceramic dentures coated with Simet permit the authors to recommend glass ceramic Simet for wide clinical introduction. In reconstructive dental prosthetics with metal glass ceramic and cermet materials the dentures should be modelled in the articulator. Preventive examinations are recommended once in half a year.

ABSTRACT

Good results of clinical follow-up of patients with cermet dentures coated with cimet (glass ceramic) permit recommending this type of coating for wide practical use. Reconstructive prosthetics with glass ceramic and metal and cermet dentures should involve denture modeling in the articulator and a prophylactic check-up at least once a year with oral hygiene and functional occlusion control.
