ABSTRACT

Understanding how maternal micronutrient intake and dietary habits impact gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is crucial. Data from 797 pregnant women were prospectively analyzed to assess GDM status with the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Nutritional intake was evaluated using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) across two periods: Period A, covering 6 months before pregnancy, and Period B, from pregnancy onset to mid-gestation (24 weeks). Micronutrient intakes were compared against the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) dietary reference values (DRVs) and were used to estimate the mean adequacy ratio (MAR) to assess dietary adequacy. GDM was diagnosed in 14.7% (n = 117) of women with the characteristics of a higher mean maternal age (MA) and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI). Out of the 13 vitamins assessed, biotin, folate, niacin, and pantothenic acid were found significantly higher in the GDM group, as did iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and zinc from the 10 minerals. The results were influenced by the timing of the assessment. Importantly, MAR was higher during pregnancy and was found to increase the risk of GDM by 1% (95%CI: 1, 1.02). A sensitivity analysis revealed that reducing MAR significantly raised the GDM risk by 68% (95%CI: 1.02, 2.79). No association was revealed between adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) and GDM risk. These findings highlight areas for further investigation into whether dietary modifications involving these specific micronutrients could effectively influence GDM outcomes.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The importance of micronutrient intake during the preconceptional and early pregnancy period for both maternal and fetal outcomes is well-known, however, relevant data are not available for Greek pregnant women. The aim of the present study is to delineate the nutritional status preceding conception among a representative cohort of Greek pregnant women. METHODS: This was a prospective study of pregnant women from routine care, recruited at 11+0-13+6 gestational weeks, between December 2020 and October 2022, at the 3rd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Eligible participants for the study included healthy pregnant women aged 20 years or older, possessing a proficient understanding of the Greek language, and not engaged in specific nutritional programs. A validated Food Frequency Questionnaire was applied to gather information regarding nutritional habits in the last 6 months prior to conception. The consumption of nutrients was compared to the reference intake levels suggested by the European Food Safety Authority. Further analyses between different participants' subgroups were performed. RESULTS: Overall, 1100 pregnant women (mean age: 32.4 ± 4.9 years) were enrolled. Almost all examined micronutrients' intake was significantly different from dietary reference values. Furthermore, nutrient adequacy ratio was below 60% in 6 out of 22 micronutrients examined, and Mean Adequacy Ratio was 93%. However, Mean Adequacy Ratio is characterized by extreme variance between the examined values. Iodine, folic acid, potassium, and vitamin D intake levels were significantly lower than the recommended intake levels (p < .001 for all), while vitamin K and niacin (p < .001 for both) were consumed in great extent. Sodium median intake, without calculating extra salt addition also exceeded the reference value levels (p = .03). Notably, magnesium intake exceeded the upper safety limits in 12.4% of the sample. CONCLUSION: Potential inadequacies in important micronutrients for uneventful pregnancy outcomes have been revealed.. Special attention is needed for magnesium to balance possible toxicity with evident benefits.

ABSTRACT

The early and accurate diagnosis of endometrial cancer is of paramount importance for the survival of these patients. The aim of this study was to systematically appraise the available data regarding the accuracy of frozen section biopsy in diagnosing endometrial cancer. A thorough literature search was performed in PubMed/Medline, Scopus and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases from inception up to January 2023, with the use of specific, relevant key terms. A quality evaluation for each study was performed with the QUADAS-2 tool, whereas a bivariate random-effect model was performed to generate a summary receiver-operated curve. Heterogeneity was evaluated with Cochrane Q and Higgins' I2 statistics. Subgroup analyses were performed for studies focused on atypical hyperplasia and those focused on endometrial cancer. The search yielded 47 studies, involving 7790 patients with endometrial cancer. Among them, only 11 could be included in the quantitative analysis. QUADAS-2 evaluation resulted in rather high quality among the included studies. Quantitative synthesis resulted in a pooled sensitivity of 0.863 and pooled specificity of 0.916. The AUC was 0.948, the Q statistic was 10.488 (10 df, p = 0.399) and Higgins' I2 (4.655%) reported no significant heterogeneity. Subgroup analyses based on the diagnosis revealed a pooled sensitivity 0.886, specificity 0.862 and AUC 0.934 for endometrial cancer versus a sensitivity of 0.816, specificity of 0.962 and AUC 0.939 for atypical hyperplasia. Frozen section appears as a valid and reliable diagnostic tool for endometrial cancer. Its reliability seems to be even higher for the diagnosis of atypical hyperplasia. Therefore, this method may be considered in clinical practice and in settings with appropriate resources.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the potential impact of pre-pregnancy and early pregnancy maternal nutrition on the incidence of small-for-gestational-age neonates (SGA) in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted between 2020 and 2022 at the 3rd Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece). Pregnant women from routine care were surveyed about their dietary habits during two distinct periods: six months prior to pregnancy (period A) and from the onset of pregnancy until the oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28 gestational weeks (period B). The intake of various micronutrients and macronutrients was quantified from the questionnaire responses. Logistic regression models, adjusted for potential confounders including age, pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), smoking status, physical activity and parity, were used to evaluate the association between nutrient intake and small-for-gestational-age neonate incidence. RESULTS: In total, 850 women were screened and of these, 90 (11%) were diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus and were included in the study. There were significant associations between the intake of specific nutrients and the occurrence of small-for-gestational-age neonates; higher fat intake compared to non-small for gestationa age during period B (aOR: 1.1, p = 0.005) was associated with an increased risk for small-for-gestational-age neonates, while lower intake of carbohydrates (g) (aOR: 0.95, p = 0.005), fiber intake (aOR: 0.79, p = 0.045), magnesium (aOR: 0.96, p = 0.019), and copper (aOR:0.01, p = 0.018) intake during period B were significantly associated with a decreased risk for small-for-gestational-age neonates. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study highlight the potential role of maternal nutrition in modulating the risk of small for gestational age neonatesamong women with gestational diabetes mellitus. The results advocate for further research on the assessment and modification of both pre-pregnancy and early pregnancy nutrition for women, especially those at higher risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, to reduce the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus.

ABSTRACT

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a growing epidemic affecting pregnant women and their offspring. This study aimed to identify the relationship between adherence to a Mediterranean diet (MD) before conception and the risk of GDM in a contemporary Greek pregnant cohort. A prospective cohort of pregnant women was recruited at the routine first trimester visit. Nutritional intake was evaluated using a population specific validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Pre-pregnancy adherence to MD was derived using two different scoring systems, the Mediterranean diet index score (MDS), and a modified version. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) were computed using multiple logistic regression models for each score derived. Of 743 participating women, 112 (15.1%) developed GDM. The MDS index showed that scoring 5-9 points (high adherence) was associated with a lower GDM incidence (aOR: 0.57 95% CI (0.32, 0.90), p = 0.02), while the modified MDS index showed no significant association for any level of adherence. Pre-pregnancy consumption of "meat and derivatives" and "fatty meat and processed meat" was associated with a higher risk of GDM, with both scoring systems (p = 0.008, p = 0.004, respectively). A higher adherence to a MD pre-pregnancy, especially with less meat consumption, may have a protective effect on the occurrence of GDM.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gestational weight gain (GWG) up to 23+6 weeks of gestation on the incidence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). A pregnant cohort of 5948 women in Northern Greece was recruited. Anthropometric features before and during pregnancy were recorded, the GWG by 23+6 weeks was calculated and a Generalized Linear Regression Model (GLM) with subgroup analyses based on weight status were computed. GDM was diagnosed in 5.5% of women. GLM results showed that GDM likelihood increased with maternal age (MA) and pre-pregnancy BMI (aOR: 1.08, 95%CI: [1.06, 1.11] and aOR: 1.09, 95%CI: [1.09, 1.11], respectively). Ιn the normal pre-pregnancy weight group, when the extra weight gain was >8 kgs, the odds of GDM increased (OR: 2.13, 95%CI: [0.98, 4.21], p = 0.03). Women with pre-pregnancy level 2 clinical obesity (OB2 pre) (BMI > 35 and <40 kg/m2) that shifted to OB3 category (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) had an increased GDM likelihood (OR: 4.85, 95%CI: [1.50, 15.95]). Women of higher MA may require stricter monitoring for GDM from early pregnancy, while in obese women, recommended GWG may need to be re-evaluated, since refraining from any weight gain may have a preventive effect for GDM.

OBJECTIVES: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantitatively summarize the present data on the association of prenatally identified lateral placenta in singleton pregnancies with small for gestational age (SGA) neonates, preeclampsia and other perinatal outcomes. METHODS: From inception to November 2021, we searched PubMed/Medline, Scopus and The Cochrane Library for papers comparing the risk of SGA and preeclampsia, as well as other perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies with a prenatally identified lateral placenta to those with non-lateral placentas. The revised Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate the quality of eligible papers. The I2 test was employed to evaluate the heterogeneity of outcomes among the studies. To investigate the possibility of publication bias, funnel plots were constructed. Prospero RN: CRD42021251590. RESULTS: The search yielded 5,420 articles, of which 16 were chosen, comprising of 15 cohort studies and one case control study with a total of 4,947 cases of lateral and 96,035 of non-lateral placenta (controls) reported. SGA neonates were more likely to be delivered in cases with a lateral placenta (OR: 1.74; 95% CI: 1.54-1.96; p<0.00001; I2=47%). Likewise, placental laterality was linked to a higher risk of fetal growth restriction (OR: 2.18; 95% CI: 1.54-3.06; p<0.00001; I2=0%), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (OR: 2.39; 95% CI: 1.65-3.51; p=0.0001; I2=80%), preeclampsia (OR: 2.92; 95% CI: 1.92-4.44; p<0.0001; I2=82%) and preterm delivery (OR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.46-1.87; p<0.00001; I2=0%). CONCLUSIONS: The prenatal diagnosis of a lateral placenta appears to be associated with a higher incidence of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, preterm delivery and SGA. This may prove useful in screening for these conditions at the second trimester anomaly scan.

Hearing loss is commonly encountered by general practitioners. We aimed to evaluate the screening benefit of air conduction pure-tone audiometry over visual analogue scale (VAS) scores for hearing loss. Moreover, we intended to perform the first cross-sectional study in Greece to assess hearing loss with pure-tone audiometry in young adults of the general population. We evaluated Greeks between 15 and 40 years old in a high school in Karditsa, Greece, and a primary health care unit in a nearby community. Subjects filled out a VAS score sheet and underwent pure-tone audiometry in a room without sound isolation, with air conduction only. We named the latter procedure modified pure-tone audiometry (mPTA). Subjects with pathologic results were examined via otoscopy and standardized pure-tone audiometry (sPTA). Of the 286 subjects evaluated, the VAS score revealed 5 subjects (1.7%) with hearing loss. mPTA (100 s duration) doubled this percentage (in total 3.8%; Pearson Chi-Square test; p < 0.001). Based on sPTA, the sensitivity and positive predictive value of the VAS score were 40% and 13%, respectively. For mPTA, they were 100% and 37%, respectively. mPTA filtered out pathologic cases in a proper, rapid, cheap and simple way and may be considered a proper screening method for hearing loss in primary health care.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a significant health concern with adverse outcomes for both pregnant women and their offspring. Recognizing the need for early intervention, this study aimed to develop an early prediction model for GDM risk assessment during the first trimester. Utilizing a prospective cohort of 4917 pregnant women from the Third Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, the study sought to combine maternal characteristics, obstetric and medical history, and early pregnancy-specific biomarker concentrations into a predictive tool. The primary objective was to create a series of predictive models that could accurately identify women at high risk for developing GDM, thereby facilitating early and targeted interventions. To this end, maternal age, body mass index (BMI), obstetric and medical history, and biomarker concentrations were analyzed and incorporated into five distinct prediction models. The study's findings revealed that the models varied in effectiveness, with the most comprehensive model combining maternal characteristics, obstetric and medical history, and biomarkers showing the highest potential for early GDM prediction. The current research provides a foundation for future studies to refine and expand upon the predictive models, aiming for even earlier and more accurate detection methods.

Introduction Healthcare systems suffered a significant hit by the COVID-19 pandemic since the spring of 2020, and a need for major reorganization emerged. Along with the constant increase in COVID-19 cases, a significant drop in emergency attendances for non-COVID-19-related conditions was noted worldwide. We decided to document attendances in our hospital's emergency department during the first lockdown period in order to monitor this trend, compare it to data from other countries, and start monitoring the effects of this reduction in the years to come. Materials and methods Emergency department attendances at AHEPA University Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece, from March 10, 2020, to May 31, 2020, were documented and compared to the corresponding period in 2019. The data collected included the number of patients per specialty, severity upon admission, as well as the need for admission. Results We found a 58% reduction in emergency department attendance during the studied period compared to the corresponding period in 2019 (p<0.0001). The reduction was more noticeable in ears, nose, throat (ENT), and ophthalmology attendances (75.7% and 78.1% reductions, respectively, p<0.001), but other specialties, such as cardiology and general surgery, were also significantly affected (60% and 63% reductions, respectively, p<0.001). However, the percentage of attendances that required admission increased significantly by 25-33% (p<0.001) during the lockdown, reflecting the higher severity of cases reaching the hospital. Conclusion Despite the obvious reduction in attendances during the COVID-19 pandemic, patients still suffer from serious conditions that require hospital admission. Therefore, hospitals need to be supported to also care for these patients. The long-term effects of avoiding hospital attendance need to be closely monitored.

OBJECTIVE: Urinary bladder ischemia has been implicated in the pathogenesis of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, research regarding urinary molecular markers for diagnosis and prognosis of pelvic ischemia is still premature, hindering further implementation in clinical practice. The aim of this study is to systematically appraise biomarkers associated with bladder ischemia detected in urine. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of PubMed/Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library in October 2021 according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement. A subsequent reference search of retrieved articles was also performed. The identified reports were reviewed according to Systematic Review Center for Laboratory Animal Experimentation's risk-of-bias tool for animal studies. RESULTS: Eight publications were selected for this analysis. The included reports used 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) (in eight studies) as urinary marker of bladder ischemia. The pooled mean difference for urinary 8-OHdG levels between study and control groups was 13.73 ng/mg creatinine (95% CI, 9.79-17.67; P < .001; I2  = 69%) for rat studies and 3.71 ng/mg creatinine (95% CI, 2.91-4.51; P < .001; I2  = 94%) for rabbit studies. The result remained statistically significant favoring the control group independent of the type of intervention used to achieve bladder ischemia. Regarding secondary outcomes, mean voided volume and micturition interval were significantly lower in the ischemia group. CONCLUSION: The lack of human randomized controlled trials is a major limitation. 8-OHdG is a urinary biomarker to be investigated in future studies for diagnosis and prognosis of LUTS in patients with vascular injury or bladder outlet obstruction.

Menopausal transition and post-menopause constitute windows of increased vulnerability to depression. Recently, the Meno-D was introduced, a novel 12-item, with five distinct subscales. The aim of our study was to translate and validate the electronic version of the Meno-D among Greek post-menopausal women. Translation and back-translation were performed by an expert group, while face validity was assessed by five experts. Along with the Beck Depression Inventory-II, the Meno-D scale was distributed online to 502 post-menopausal women. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to investigate construct validity and both convergent and discriminant validity were evaluated. The data analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and AMOS. The 5-factor model of Meno-D achieved adequate levels of goodness-of-fit indices, scoring lower values in discriminant validity examined with heterotrait-monotrait ratio and composite reliability. The significant correlation with the Beck Depression Inventory-ΙΙ revealed for all subscales was indicative of good convergent validity. An exploratory factor analysis was additionally performed, suggesting a 12-item tool comprising two subscales: (i) psychological and (ii) biological and achieving good levels of fit. Our data confirmed that the electronic version of Meno-D is a valid tool that can be used for screening and evaluation of depression in Greek post-menopausal women.

ABSTRACT

The proportion of females choosing a career in surgery is lower than that of males. Through the Obesity Surgery and SOARD journals of 2018-2020, the number of articles with female first/senior authors was identified and their characteristics were assessed. Almost 40% of the published papers were written by females, being mostly original and from University Hospitals, although the difference in the numbers between journals was prominent (p = 0.011). Articles with a female as first author had a female or male as senior, at a ratio 1:2, while less than 10% of female senior authors had a male as first. The number of females as corresponding authors in SOARD was significantly higher (p < 0.001). The findings of the present study underline the existing gender inequity in bariatric surgery.

OBJECTIVES: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to quantitatively synthesize the current evidence on the association of prenatally diagnosed isolated single umbilical artery (iSUA) in singleton pregnancies with small for gestational age (SGA) neonates and other perinatal outcomes. METHODS: A search of PubMed/Medline, Scopus and The Cochrane Library was conducted, from inception to February 2021, in order to identify studies comparing the risk of SGA and other perinatal adverse outcomes in prenatally diagnosed iSUA singleton pregnancies vs. those with a 3-vessel cord (3VC). The quality of eligible studies was assessed according to the improved Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). The heterogeneity of results across the studies was tested using the I2 test. Funnel plots and Egger's test were used to assess the possibility of publication bias. Prospero RN: CRD42020182586. RESULTS: The electronic search identified 7,605 studies, of which 11 were selected, including three retrospective cohort and eight retrospective case control studies, overall reporting on 1,533 iSUA cases. The risk of delivering SGA neonates was increased in cases with iSUA (OR: 2.90; 95% CI: 2.02-4.18; p<0.00001; I2=71%). Similarly, iSUA was associated with an increased risk of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) (OR: 2.23; 95% CI: 1.41-3.54; p<0.000; I2=1%), intrauterine death (IUD) (OR: 2.62; 95% CI: 1.43-4.79; p=0.002; I2=0%), preterm birth (PTB) (OR: 2.48; 95% CI: 1.73-3.56; p<0.00001; I2=56%), cesarean section (CS) (OR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.11-2.41; p=0.01; I2=78%) and admission to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) (OR: 2.28; 95% CI: 1.52-3.44; p<0.000001; I2=73%). CONCLUSIONS: In prenatally diagnosed iSUA there is a higher risk of SGA, PIH, IUD, PTB, CS and NICU admission. These findings support the value of prenatal diagnosis of iSUA, which may subsequently intensify surveillance for the detection of specific pregnancy complications.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the validity of a short, culture-specific, semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for Greek dietary habits and among a population of pregnant women, and to assess the adherence of reported nutritional habits to the Mediterranean diet. METHODS: The validity of the FFQ was assessed by comparing FFQ-derived nutrient intakes against the average of two 24-h dietary recalls of 70 pregnant women. We used appropriate statistical methods to examine the nutrient correlation and level of agreement between the two figures (Pearson or Spearman correlation and Bland-Altman test, respectively). Calculation of the Mediterranean Diet Score was performed to evaluate participants' adherence to the Mediterranean diet. RESULTS: Statistically significant positive correlations, of medium strength, were observed for almost all macronutrient groups (ρs ranging from 0.326 to 0.538). Dietary fiber intake was the only nutrient where a weak correlation was identified (ρ = -0.106; P > 0.05). Mean intakes, derived from the FFQ, agreed with results from the 24-h recalls based on Bland-Altman analysis, with the agreement ranging between 94.3% and 98.6% for the macronutrient groups under examination. The calculation of the Mediterranean Diet Score revealed that Greek pregnant women's habits are in accordance with the principles of the Mediterranean diet. CONCLUSIONS: The developed FFQ is a valid tool that could provide reliable nutrient intake assessment in studies monitoring dietary habits of pregnant women, a group where nutritional monitoring is essential but to date remains limited.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this overview of systematic reviews was to synthesize, appraise, and present all systematic review (SR) evidence on the clinical efficacy of glutamine administration to severely ill patients. METHODS: Medline, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Prospero were searched up to March 2020. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials published in English, comparing immunomodulating diets-containing exclusively glutamine-with standard diets for critically ill adult patients were selected. Data were collected from each selected systematic review and all available primary studies. The primary outcome was overall mortality; secondary outcomes were rate of infectious complications, hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS). RESULTS: Seventeen SRs were eligible for inclusion. Of the SRs, 16 included meta-analyses with moderate degree of overlap (corrected covered area = 10%). These included 117 randomized controlled trials with 9933 patients. Glutamine supplementation was not associated with overall mortality and ICU LOS. However, it may reduce the rate of infectious complications overall (N = 3666, risk ratio, 0.82; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.73-0.92; I2 = 33%: low quality of evidence). LOS was limited with the supplementation of glutamine (N = 4353 weighted mean difference, -2.90; 95% CI, -3.66 to -2.15; I2 = 81%: very low quality of evidence), but this effect was diminished when only studies with low risk for bias were synthesized. CONCLUSION: Glutamine could demonstrate a beneficial role in critical care patients of diminishing the rate of infectious complications and hospital and ICU LOS. However, future studies with better quality would confirm this finding.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 pandemic has affected more than a million people worldwide causing a public health crisis. Under these unique circumstances, urologists continue to provide essential healthcare services and support healthcare systems, by participating in the treatment of COVID-19(+) patients and sparing vital equipment and hospital beds. However, delivering medical care during the pandemic requires strategic planning for all surgical and outpatient activities. Proposed measures include rescheduling elective non-oncological surgeries and using a prioritization protocol for oncological surgeries according to hospital capacity. Following that, outpatient clinics could be partly replaced by telemedicine. Additionally, urologists should be trained in screening and treating patients with COVID-19 during their daily routine.  In order to efficiently provide their services, a management protocol for suspected or known COVID-19 urological patients should be implemented. Furthermore, preventive measures for the nosocomial dispersion of the virus and training on self-protective equipment is mandatory for all physicians. Finally, organizational planning for the best utilization of the staff is of utmost importance. Implementation and adaptation of the protocols according to local requirements and guidelines will ameliorate the quality of services and population's health status. Finally, enhancement of current practices will prepare health systems for future crisis.

Burnout and occupational stress are common problems in the modern society. The aim of the study was to investigate the association of burnout and occupational stress with sexual dysfunction. The study enrolled 251 residents, 143 males and 108 females. The personal medical history, demographics, and professional data of the participants were recorded. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) and the job stress measure were used for the evaluation of burnout and occupational stress, correspondingly. The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were used for the assessment of sexual function. The majority of the respondents were males (57%), with a mean age of 31 years. From the analysis concerning males, personal burnout, hypertension, and alcohol consumption correlated independently with erectile dysfunction (p = 0.001) and reduced total satisfaction (p < 0.001). With respect to the female participants, the number of children was found to be related to easier arousal (p = 0.009), better lubrication (p = 0.006), and orgasm (p = 0.016). Contrariwise, job stress related negatively with lubrication (p = 0.031) and orgasm (p = 0.012). This is the first study examining the effect of burnout on sexual function. Personal burnout was observed to be associated with sexual dysfunction in men whereas job stress correlated with female sexual problems. Further examination in different occupational groups and a greater number of patients is required.
