ABSTRACT

The utilization of all-ceramic anterior restorations has been widely advocated by dental clinicians for the creation of a natural appearance, even in teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment. A suitable aesthetic level is generally more difficult to achieve, however, when a post and core system is required in the absence of adequate dental structure. In particular, conventional cast-metallic posts negate light transmission, which has long been considered a vital component in the creation of optimal aesthetics. This article provides an overview of the materials, fabrication methods, and procedures involved in anterior reconstruction using aesthetic alternative systems and solutions.

ABSTRACT

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Some restorative materials used in the posterior region of the mouth present conventional problems, such as microleakage, recurrent caries, wear, and poor color stability. PURPOSE: This study determined the reliability of the IPS Empress ceramic material for fabricating inlays and onlays in the posterior region of the mouth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 125 IPS Empress pressed glass ceramic inlays were placed for 29 patients in a private practice. The restorations were observed for a period of 7 to 56 months, with a mean of 40.3 months. All inlays were constructed in the same dental laboratory and the restorative materials used according to the manufacturers' instructions. The restorations were evaluated clinically according to modified U.S. Public Health Service criteria at the time of insertion and at periodic recall appointments. Kaplan-Meier statistics were used to calculate survival rates. RESULTS: Clinical evaluation revealed that pressed glass ceramic inlays, with the exception of four fractured restorations, were rated from Alpha to Bravo for each criteria. Marginal discoloration recorded the lowest percentage of alpha ratings (65.3%). The estimated survival rate after approximately a 4.5-year follow-up period was 95.63% (95% confidence interval; 90.77% to 99.95%).

ABSTRACT

The IPS Empress pressed glass-ceramic system was used in this investigation to restore anterior and posterior single teeth. One hundred forty-four crowns were evaluated over a period of 6 to 68 months (mean period of 37 months). According to the Kaplan-Meier analysis, the estimated success rate after this period was 95.35%. Crowns were also investigated using the modified US Public Health Service criteria. Most of the crowns rated as Alpha for color match, contour, marginal integrity, recurrent caries, and marginal discoloration. The results of this study indicate that this material can be successfully used, especially in the anterior area, when the procedures outlined are carefully followed.

ABSTRACT

It has been studied the antibiotic sensitivity of 27 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains belonging to only two types, isolated hospitalized children and responsible of different clinical pictures. The strains were in vitro resistant to Carbenicillin, Sisomicine, Gentamycine and many other antibiotic tested, partially resistant to Tobramycin and sensitive to Amikacine, Polimixine B and Colistatin.

ABSTRACT

Microbic flora has been studied in the Centro di Rianimazione of the Ospedali Riuniti in Chieti to control validity of the antibacterial systems and to verify efficacy of the filter systems that allow the admission into the isolation boxes, stopping great bacterial exogenous increases. These inspection have been executed by suction system Batteriological Air Pollution Detector.
