ABSTRACT

Carotidynia is a rare presentation of atypical neck and face pain, which is due to inflammation around the carotid artery. Symptoms can get aggravated by head and neck movements, jaw movements and deglutition. It is usually a self- limiting illness, and it is treated conservatively with analgesics. Because of it is rarity, and partly due to physician's lack of understanding, it remains underdiagnosed. Our case report aims to shed light on the importance of how its diagnosis cannot be missed.

ABSTRACT

Background: Consumption of tobacco is a prevalent public health problem in Saudi Arabia and worldwide. It remains one of the world's leading causes of preventable premature death and a public health concern. We aim to Estimation the prevalence of tobacco smoking among dental practitioners working at the Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in one of the largest government hospitals in Riyadh using a self-administered questionnaire. The study targeted dental practitioners including; oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, periodontists, prosthodontists, endodontists, pediatric dentists, restorative dentists, general dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental lab technicians. The study data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software package. Results: Overall, 74 dental practitioners completed the study questionnaire; 54.1% were females. The age of study participants ranged between 24 to 56 years, while their mean age was 33.84 years. The prevalence of current smokers among the respondents in was 25.67%. Of the participants, 9.45% were ex-smokers. Stress relief was the main reason for smoking (52.6%), followed by relaxation (31.6%). Most respondents agreed that dental practitioners should serve as role models (73%), and that health care practitioners should give advice or information about smoking cessation to patients (79.7%). Most participants had insufficient training about tobacco hazards (56.8%). Conclusion: The prevalence of tobacco smoking among dental practitioners included in this study was closer to that in previous studies. Furthermore, study participants lacked sufficient training about tobacco hazards and control.

ABSTRACT

Appendicitis is one of the frequent complaints for which patients visit the Emergency Department. Appendectomy is one of the most commonly performed procedures. Stump appendicitis is a rare but severe complication of appendectomy due to the inflammation of the remaining part of the appendix. Because it is rare and partly due to physicians' lack of understanding of this entity, the diagnosis is highly delayed, leading to severe complications including perforation or peritonitis. This article aims to raise the importance and awareness and shed light on how possibly it could be avoided.

ABSTRACT

The aim here is to investigate the effects of convective heat and mass transfer in the flow of Eyring-Powell fluid past an inclined exponential stretching surface. Mathematical formulation and analysis have been performed in the presence of Soret, Dufour and thermal radiation effects. The governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum, energy and concentration are reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations. Resulting nonlinear system is computed for the series solutions. Interval of convergence is determined. Physical interpretation is seen for the embedded parameters of interest. Skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number are numerically computed and examined.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the unsteady flow of Powell-Eyring fluid past an inclined stretching sheet. Unsteadiness in the flow is due to the time-dependence of the stretching velocity and wall temperature. Mathematical analysis is performed in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source/sink. The relevant boundary layer equations are reduced into self-similar forms by suitable transformations. The analytic solutions are constructed in a series form by homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence interval of the auxiliary parameter is obtained. Graphical results displaying the influence of interesting parameters are given. Numerical values of skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed.
