ABSTRACT

Although work satisfaction has been largely studied, gratitude is an emerging field within multiple sciences, including positive psychology, organizational behavior, and human resources marketing. This ex post facto study aims to characterize gratitude and understand its relations to job satisfaction in a non-probabilistic sample of 521 Portuguese workers (62.2% women), 30.90% and 69.10% in the public and private sector, respectively, mean ages of M = 43, SD = 12.6. Data were collected using anonymous questionnaires during the COVID-19 lockdown. Statistical analyses were performed in SPSS 26, and include Student's t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and a hierarchical linear regression model. Results confirm that Portuguese workers are grateful and satisfied at work. There were statistically significant differences between groups in sociodemographic (p < 0.001 and p < 0.05), professional (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001), and perceived living conditions variables (p < 0.05) regarding gratitude. Gratitude, alone, explains 8% of job satisfaction. According to the regression model (32.4%), perceptions of satisfaction initiatives and greater job security are also associated with higher levels of job satisfaction (23.6%). Implementation of gratitude-promoting strategies may increase job satisfaction, especially in the post-pandemic period. The investment in workers' organizational happiness, after the impacts of COVID-19 on work dynamics, is a differentiating organizations success dimension.

ABSTRACT

Although Solanum nigrum L. is a phytoremediator for different metals, its growth and physiology are still compromised by toxic levels of zinc (Zn). Thus, the development of eco-friendly strategies to enhance its tolerance, maintaining remediation potential is of special interest. This study evaluated the potential of 24-epibrassinolide (24-EBL) to boost S. nigrum defence against Zn towards a better growth rate and remediation potential. After 24 days of exposure, the results revealed that Zn-mediated inhibitory effects on biomass and biometry were efficiently mitigated upon application of 24-EBL, without affecting Zn accumulation. The evaluation of oxidative stress markers reported that Zn excess stimulated the accumulation of superoxide anion (O2.-), but reduced hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels, while not altering lipid peroxidation (LP). This was accompanied by an up-regulation of the antioxidant system, especially proline, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in both organs, and ascorbate in roots of Zn-exposed plants. Foliar application of 24-EBL, however, induced distinctive effects, lowering proline levels in both organs, as well as APX activity in shoots and SOD in roots, whilst stimulating GSH and total thiols in both organs, as well as SOD and APX activity, in shoots and in roots, respectively. Probably due to a better antioxidant efficiency, levels of O2.- and H2O2 in pre-treated plants remained identical to the control, while LP further decreased in shoots. Overall, our results indicate a protective effect of 24-EBL on S. nigrum response to excess Zn, contributing for a better tolerance and growth rate, without disturbing its phytoremediation potential.

ABSTRACT

This study relates the experience of professors from the Federal University of Mato Grosso, from 2004 to 2005, in aFamily Health Center. The study includes professors, the center’s team, and community health agents. Objective: to advice in the implementation of a mental care service, as well as to assist the clients. Actions: to organize the information registration system pertaining to mental health, to discuss the cases, to evaluate the therapeutic team activities, to realize home visits, to promote educational activities in the family and community setting, and to developthe assistance and integration of the Family Health Program (PSF) team with professors, nursing students from theFederal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), and with the community. Results and conclusions: The project received positive evaluation, given that the initial objectives were reached. The Center has treated simple cases and starts to establish itself in the community as an entry point for patients with mental health problems. Conclusion: this study effectively provided a cultural change, not only among the professionals in the team, but also in the community, whichstarts to understand the importance of the social and community inclusion of the mental health patient.

ABSTRACT

This study is related to a nurse working experience in family health team. It aims to present alternatives that give visibility to those with mental disturbs in this attention model. Data was firstly obtained through Cadastre Forms, filled by Health Community Agents. We observed that problems related to mental suffering were sub-notified. An active search was proposed through Health Community Agents, using their informal knowledge, besides cadastre. This action increased and diversified problems identified at initial cadastre, from 19 (nineteen) to 43 (forty-three), from which 39 (thirty-nine) were confirmed through consultation with specialist. After prescription of appropriate therapeutic conduct, family health team re-oriented its actions, qualifying its services to patients and family members, contributing to care demystification in relation to ones with mental disturbs...
