ABSTRACT
Este trabalho tem como tema a internação psiquiátrica compulsória. Objetiva investigar o trabalho dos assistentes sociais no atendimento de demandas de internação compulsória no Hospital de Clinicas Gaspar Vianna, visando contribuir no debate de alternativas de atendimento em saúde mental. O estudo tem abordagem qualitativa, norteada pelo método dialético crítico, o qual fundamenta o conhecimento do objeto de pesquisa a partir da apreensão das categorias contradição, totalidade, historicidade e mediação. A pesquisa é do tipo exploratória, sendo desenvolvida através de pesquisa bibliográfica e pesquisa de campo. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada com a utilização de entrevista. Os dados coletados foram posteriormente transcritos e analisados utilizando a análise de conteúdo. Inicialmente, resgata-se brevemente a história da saúde mental e serviço social no Brasil, assim com sobre a reforma psiquiátrica, traz também as discussões sobre a internação compulsória na contemporaneidade. Apresenta-se ainda o percurso da pesquisa de campo bem como são discutidos alguns dos principais resultados do estudo, considerando o problema de pesquisa. Nesse contexto, evidencia-se o trabalho do assistente social no sentido de viabilizar o acesso dos usuários aos seus direitos, conforme o projeto ético-político da profissão. Através da pesquisa, constatou-se que os/as assistentes sociais percebem a internação compulsória como um meio de proteção; ações realizadas pelas assistentes sociais situa-se, basicamente, no âmbito do atendimento direto aos usuários, consistindo geralmente do acompanhamento do usuário e da família, com a realização de encaminhamentos e articulações com a rede de atenção; dentre os instrumentos e técnicas utilizadas estão o acolhimento e as entrevistas individuais, visita domiciliar, relatórios; Entre as dificuldades enfrentadas estão a burocratização, resistência familiar, longa permanencia do paciente no hospital, insipiência da rede de serviços e o entrave institucional

Through the research, it was found that social workers perceive compulsory hospitalization as a means of protection; actions carried out by social workers are basically in the scope of direct service to users, usually consisting of the monitoring of the user and the family, with the accomplishment of referrals and articulations with the network of attention; among the instruments and techniques used are the reception and individual interviews, home visits, reports; Among the difficulties faced are bureaucratization, family resistance, long stay of the patient in the hospital, incipience of the service network and institutional obstacles
