ABSTRACT
PIP: The problem of uterine perforation resulting from the insertion of an IUD is reviewed, and 3 personal cases with the Saf-T-Coil 33 S are described. Insertion was during the post-partum in 2 cases, both multiparae. Perforation and ectopic location of the IUD were diagnosed 6 and 8 weeks later. The IUD had migrated to the cul-desac of Douglas and the omentum, respectively, and surgery was uneventful. In teh 3d case, pregnancy and possible uterine perforation were diagnosed simultaneously, and it was decided to delay laparotomy until after delivery. Causes and treatment of uterine perforation and the migrating device are discussed in detail.^ieng
