ABSTRACT

Present dataset aims at the inventory data on preparation of Desertification Status Maps (DSM) for the first time in semi-arid region of Anantapur district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, South India by applying Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) with acquired Remote Sensing (RS) satellite imageries and processed in ERDAS Imagine and ArcGIS software's. The NDVI has been classified into five such as water body, vegetation, fallow land, degradation land, and desertified land. Further, degradation land has been decreased to 4.87% which lead to desertification in the study region. The current research data will be resourceful to the environmental scientists and planning agencies who can utilize optimum for sustainable development and good governance in land degradation, desertification, and conserve land resources.

ABSTRACT

Morphometric analysis has been carried out to assess the drainage characteristics of Kunderu river basin of India. The basin is mostly dendritic to subdendritic in nature. Bifurcation ratio of successive orders has shown a gradual decrease from one order to next and this is attributed to differences in rock types and stage of development. The high values for lower stream orders indicate that the lower streams are mostly found in mountainous and highly dissected areas and the low bifurcation ratio approaching a value of in higher order streams indicates the flow of these streams in a flat to rolling terrain. The drainage density ranged from 0.54 to 0.76 and stream frequencies ranged from 0.09 to 0.23 in Kunderu river sub-basins. The drainage density and drainage frequency are low, which indicate a higher recharge of groundwater and a higher transmissibity of aquifers. The low drainage density ranged from 0.54 to 0.76 for sub-basins and low stream frequencies ranged from 0.09 to 0.23 in Kunderu river sub-basins, indicating a higher recharge of groundwater.

ABSTRACT

Rajampet taluk is semi-arid and drought prone situated in Kadapa district in Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh, was selected to conduct groundwater investigations. The study area was investigated in terms of its geology, hydrogeology, geoelectrical, aquifer parameters and quality of water. The groundwater samples from the wells of Rajampet taluk were collected and the chemical analysis for various parameters has been carried out. The data pertaining to water quality has been systematically processed and the results are presented numerically and graphically in this paper. 54 VES were carried out throughout the taluk. Pump test has been carried out in selected bore wells in the study area.
