ABSTRACT

Under analysis were 38 observations of primary acute diseases of the greater omentum in children: torsion of the omentum (in 16 patients), idiopathic infarction (in 12), primary omentitis (in 10). These diseases are met in 0.07% of all the patients operated upon with acute abdominal pathology. The absence of macroscopic alterations in the vermiform process or their secondary character, the presence of hemorrhagic exudate in the abdominal cavity are considered to be indications for revision of the greater omentum and its resection if a pathology revealed. All the patients were operated upon and healing followed.

ABSTRACT

Abscessing omentitis was diagnozed in 0.02% of children operated upon for destructive appendicitis. The most probable causes of the abscesses were resection of its inflammatory portion not within the limits of healthy tissues, and not performing a resection of the inflamed omentum during appendectomy. The preoperative diagnostics proves to be difficult. All the patients were subjected to resection of the omentum with the abscess within the limits of healthy tissues. All the patients recovered.

ABSTRACT

Associated injuries of pelvic bones and urethra were observed in 50 children. The clinical picture, diagnosis and methods of treatment are described with special reference to time gone after trauma. The most effective method of treatment of ruptured urethra is thought to be putting the primary suture.

ABSTRACT

Microlaparotomy with a "seeking catheter" is recommended by the authors to be used for timely diagnosis of injuries of the abdominal cavity. The recommendation is made on the basis of the experience with diagnosing and treatment of 155 children with associated traumas of the abdomen and skull.

ABSTRACT

In the paper, the results of examination and treatment of 19 patients with a ring-shape pancreas are presented. In children an annular pancreas is manifested in acute or recurrent high intestinal obstruction. The method of treatment consists in by-pass anastomosis constructed between the duodenum and jejunum or duodenoduodenostomy. Dissection of the ring seems to be not permissible in children. 10 children died postoperatively. The high mortality rate is conditioned by premature delivery, associated defects of development and delivery trauma.
