ABSTRACT

The concentrations of nutrients (NO2-N, NO3-N, NH4-N, PO4-P, and SiO3-Si) and their ratios in the Lembeh Strait were estimated in April 2013, off the northeastern coast of Sulawesi in Indonesia. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) (NO2-N+NO3-N+NH4-N) and PO4-P were low, with a maximum of 0.181 and 0.007 mg/L, respectively. P was found to be the limiting factor controlling phytoplankton growth overall. According to a potential eutrophication assessment model, both the surface water and the water at a depth of 15m were classified as water 1 (poor nutrition). This study provides baseline information including chemical datasets for future pollution monitoring and management programs in this area.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy of cefoperazone/sulbactam(Sulperazon) for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD).METHODS A total of 136 cases of AECOPD were randomized into cefoperazone/sulbactam group and ceftazidime group, and sputum culture of each case was underwent before and after treatment.RESULTS The total efficacy rates and bacterial clearance rates in cefoperazone/sulbactam group and ceftazidime group were 91.18%,96.67% and 70.59%,75.86%,respectively,and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant.CONCLUSIONS It suggested that cefoperazone/sulbactam be a more effective drug for AECOPD.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy of piperacillin/tazobactam for severe community acquired pneumonia(CAP) among elderly.METHODS Seventy-six elderly cases of severe CAP were randomized into piperacillin/tazobactam group and ceftriazone group, and the sputum culture was underwent for each case before and after treatment.RESULTS The total efficacy rates and bacterial clearance rates in piperacillin/tazobactam group and ceftriazone group were 92.11% and 88.89%,and 73.68% and 58.82%,respectively,and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant.CONCLUSIONS It suggestes that piperacillin/tazobactam be a more effective drug for severe CAP among elderly in old age.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To understand the status quo adverse drug reactions(ADR) occurred in our hospital and to promote clinical use of drugs.METHODS:By retrospective analysis, study 73 ADR cases collected from our hospital in 2009 were analyzed in respect of gender and age of patient, route of administration, category of drugs, organs and systems involved in ADR and its clinical manifestation.RESULTS:Of total 73 ADR cases,35.6% of cases were induced by anti-infective agents and 9.6% traditional Chinese medicines. Most of cases were caused by intravenous administration.Main clinical manifestations were lesion of skin and its appendents.CONCLUSION:Rational use of anti-infective agents and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) should be strengthened.Quality control and standard application of TCM injection should be enhanced to reduced or avoid the incidence of ADR.
