ABSTRACT
The sudden appearance of a large cyst in the breast is a frightening experience to the average female patient. Needle aspiration of the mass not only alleviates this fear quickly but also is a safe and economical method of management. Yet, surveys show that the majority of surgeons still do not routinely aspirate breast cysts. The concomitant use of progesterone apparently reduces the frequency of recurrence of these cysts. In addition, follow-up studies indicate no increased incidence of carcinoma after aspiration.
