ABSTRACT

The paper summarizes the results of studies into the pathological anatomy and pathomorphism of pulmonary tuberculosis in Yakutia, which have been conducted by the Department of Anatomy, Yakutsk State University Medical Institute, over 36 years. A morphological comparative analysis of autopsies of individuals who died from different forms in the pre-antibacterial and antibacterial periods and surgical materials were used as a major source of data. More than 1,000 autopsies made it possible to define a wide range of behavioral patterns and the morphological features of pulmonary tuberculosis under the extreme climatic conditions of the Far North. These findings have made a significant contribution to the development of the new scientific school Northern Phthisiology.

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to identify the share of lethality from pulmonary tuberculosis and its nature over the last decade in Yakutsk. The study is based on the analysis of 98 autopsies of adults who died from a variety of infectious diseases during 1993-1995. The study shows that the proportion of lethal outcomes from tuberculosis is high and comprises 63.3% out of other infectious diseases. The nature of the lethality is characterized by the death of adults mainly from 20 to 50 years old and totals 67.8%. 67.7% of the lethal outcomes are caused by the fibrous-cavitary form and 19.4% by the disseminated pulmonary form of tuberculosis.

ABSTRACT

The paper shows the value of the activities of a medical sanitary detachment from the complex expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1925-1930) in the development of surgical treatment for bone and joint tuberculosis and its sequelae in adults from Yakutia. A total of 981 operations were made from 1951 to 1994. Priorities were given to timely surgical interventions, including radical reparative spinal and joint operations, by using the Ilizarov apparatus.

ABSTRACT

The study revealed the pathomorphology of pulmonary tuberculosis by using abundant retrospective materials from the prosectorship's archives (1061 autopsies), which referred to individuals who had died from pulmonary tuberculosis in the pretreatment and treatment periods. The comparative analysis of autopsies in the populational context is an important method of this new medical line of pathoanatomical investigations.
