ABSTRACT
A pesar de que la utilización de la terapia electroconvulsiva ha generado tanto cuestionamiento, el concenso para su utilización se ha incrementado, hasta llegar a ser aplicable en diferentes enfermedades psiquiátricas y/o neurológicas. La bibliografía científica asegura que es un tratamiento altamente eficaz y de escaso riesgo. Coloca al psiquiátra entre sus prejuicios y conocimientos. Although the usage of electroconvulsive therapy has produced so much controversy, the agreement for its usage has increased up to the level of being applicable in different psychiatric and/or neurological diseases. Scientific bibliographies assure that it is a very efficient treatment with low risks. It places the professionals in a real dilema between knowledge and prejudicies.
