ABSTRACT

Leiomyosarcoma arising from renal pelvis is a very rare disease. A patient was admitted to hospital with left renal colic due to nephrolithiasis, with a filling defect in renal pelvis that was considered to be a blood clot. Diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma was made after visual inspection and biopsy of the exophytic lesion. Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy was performed, histological and immunohistochemical investigation confirmed leiomyosarcoma with mixomatoid component. No adjuvant treatment was performed, the patient remains healthy 5 years after surgery without recurrence. Herein we provide literature review, discussion of the diagnosis and treatment scenario of the patient with renal pelvis leiomyosarcoma.

ABSTRACT

Function of the affected ureter was studied with multichannel impedance ureterography in 6 adult patients (age 18-35 years) with neuromuscular ureteral dysplasia (NUD). Of them, 5 patients had compensated ureteral contractility. These patients received endoscopic therapy with Ho-laser consisting of circular ablation of congenital stricture of intramural portion of the ureter. Control examinations (maximal follow-up 6 years) demonstrated a significant stable decrease in dilatation of the upper urinary tracts.

ABSTRACT

A surgical treatment of neuromuscular ureteral, dysplasia (NUD) is proposed which provides development of restenosis in vesicoureteral anastomosis and vesicoureteral reflux in maintenance of normal urodynamics of the upper urinary tracts. This organ-saving method can be applied at late disease. Multichannel impedance ureterography proved useful in definition of the operation's scope.
