ABSTRACT

Analysed herein are the outcomes of a comprehensive (clinical, ultrasonographic and magnetic-resonance) examination of 322 patients with symptomatology of ischemic disorders of cerebral circulation, undergoing treatment at a neurological hospital. Of these, a total of 194 (60 %) patients were found to have various types of pathology of the internal carotid arteries (ICA). Pathological kinking of the internal carotid arteries was revealed in 56 (17.4%) subjects. Based on the findings of the clinical and instrumental examination we managed to specify the definition of pathological kinking. Also determined were peculiarities of the circle of Willis, promoting manifestations of cerebral circulation insufficiency in patients presenting with pathological kinking. Studied were the long-term outcomes (up to 4 years) of surgical treatment of 56 patients with pathological kinking of the ICA. Good immediate outcomes of surgical operations were observed, to be followed by considerably decreased neurological symptomatology in the remote postoperative period.

ABSTRACT

Heart rhythm was subjected to mathematical analysis in patients of neurosurgical department. The data allowed to make conclusions on the role of the level and lateralization of lesions in autonomic pathology. Right hemisphere and brainstem were shown to have a major impact on the baseline autonomic tone and its regulation. Autonomic supply to actions is ensured by rhinencephalic structures of both left and right hemispheres. The data are valuable for neurology as criteria of topic diagnosis when lateralization of lesions should be clarified.

ABSTRACT

The 24-hour dynamics of the oscillatory components of the heart rhythm in neurosurgical patients in the postoperative period is shown. The peculiarities of the wave structure of the spectrum density graph depending on the localization of the pathological process and the severity of the postoperative course were revealed.

ABSTRACT

The authors describe congenital Ulrich's arthrogryposis in two five-year-old boys who were monozygotic twins. Examinations of biopsy specimens from muscles revealed in both of them fascicular atrophy of the muscular fibres, the fact, that pointed to the neurogenic character of the disease. The EMG findings pointed to the spinal level of the affection. The results of the examination have given the authors grounds to regard the patients' disease as a spinal form of Ulrich's disease. This form is described in literature for the first time. A brief review of literature dealing with Ulrich's arthrogryposis is presented.
