ABSTRACT
Etiology of preeclampsia (PE) remains unknown despite it being the leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. PE placentas show signs of chronic oxidative stress, therefore we set to investigate the HIF-1α immunohistochemical expression in PE placentas. For the first time presented study reported on significantly higher HIF-1α immunohistochemical expression in all of the placental segments; villous trophoblast (VTB), decidual cells (DC) and extravillous trophoblast (EVTB) in the PE placentas compared to placentas from normal pregnancies. The further studies on the subject are necessary in order to understand the mechanisms behind elevated HIF-1α immunohistochemical levels in PE.

In 9 patients with a history of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF), basket catheters with 64 electrodes were used to determine electrophysiologic aspects of onset and early minutes of AF in the right atrium. Mapping was performed using 32 bipolar recordings after induction of AF by programmed atrial stimulation. In 7 patients, registrations were obtained that allowed the onset of AF to be analyzed after the induction. The most common mode of induction was a conduction block and local fragmentation of electrical activation in the area anterior to the tricuspid valve; this was observed in 5 patients. Local cycle lengths (5 min) and correlation dimension of repolarization Dpw_De (2 min) was calculated in 7 patients. The recording sites of the basket catheter were fluoroscopically projected to the anatomic sites of the right atrium. The highest Dpw_Re dimensions as an expression of pronounced chaotic activity were found in the area anterior to the tricuspid valve.

To calculate the optimal conditions for fractionation a two-component multitarget model and a gradual optimizing method were applied for several tumor types (squamous cell carcinoma of skin, adenocarcinoma of mamma) and for critical normal tissue (skin, vessel-stroma). The calculated regimes guarantee a tumor healing without complications with high probability (70-95%). This probability is higher by 10-11% than in computer-based calculation by probit analysis.

Summary Among the warnings which are now necessary in Europe for the protection of the consumer and which must appear on the packagings of cosmetic and corporal hygiene products, there is one concerning lanolin. The regulation requires the mention 'Important, this product contains lanolin'. Cutaneous allergic reactions have been reported in the last few years after application of products containing lanolin or lanolin derivatives although lanolin has been used for a long time. The paper describes tests of cutaneous hypersensitivity on the guinea-pig with lanolin, lanolin alcohol and a semi-liquid lanolin. No reaction was observed with a purified lanolin, even if it was old. A weak allergenic effect was shown with the semi-liquid derivative. Sensitization reactions were observed with a sample of lanolin fatty alcohols. These results were analysed and compared to those published in literature.
