ABSTRACT
Living with chronic, daily pain generates a variety of reactions for every individual. To provide the best possible support for sufferers, management strategies have diversified, becoming multimodal and encompassing pharmacological, non-pharmacological, psychological, physiotherapeutic and educational therapies. It is within this framework that therapeutic patient education, hypnoanalgesia and self-hypnosis have been deployed.

Pain management is not limited to the putting in place of pharmacological, surgical, physiotherapy or psychological strategies. Non-pharmacological therapies can also be proposed, notably in relation to chronic pain. Appreciated by patients and developed by caregivers, they require appropriate regulatory guidelines and specific training in order for them to be implemented safely.

The pain consultation carried out by a nurse is an activity which has been developing for several years. It takes place during the diagnosis and therapeutic phase, as a primary or secondary intervention, with the nurse being supported by a multi-professional and multi-disciplinary team. By improving the care offer and the patient pathway, the nurse consultation forms an essential resource within our healthcare system.
