ABSTRACT

Chemical fertilizers are crucial for increasing agricultural growth and productivity, but inorganic fertilizers can negatively impact agricultural systems. To address this issue, sustainable techniques like organic farming are being developed, which improve soil quality and nutritional status while preserving human safety. In the Botanical Garden, of Department of Botany at the University of Delhi, India, experiments on Brassica juncea were carried out over a three-year period in six micro plots, each measuring 10 square meters. Vermicompost (V), Sargassum johnstoni (S), NPK (N), Trichoderma viride (T), and Sargassum + Trichoderma viride were five distinct organic combinations that were used to replenish the garden soil (ST). The aim of the study was to assess the effects of organic fertilizers and compare the results with commercially available chemical fertilizers (NPK) on Brassica growth and yield. The study found that soil modified with seaweed fertilizers significantly improved the morphological, reproductive, and biochemical properties of plants. Sargassum + Trichoderma soil amendment led to early flowering and fruiting, better-quality produce, and a low incidence of fungal infection and aphid infestation. This study reveals a new cost-effective method for crop development and production sustainability, benefiting both farmers and environmentalists.

ABSTRACT

Impaired renal function increases the risk for cefepime-induced neurotoxicity. Symptoms include disorientation, myoclonus, status epilepticus, ataxia, gait disturbance, coma, and death. A high index of suspicion and early recognition of symptoms can minimize the risk of progression of symptoms to permanent neurologic impairment or death.

ABSTRACT

Williams syndrome is a genetic syndrome involving an unusual facies, short stature, developmental delay and heart defects. There is a genetic marker for this disease. Williams syndrome is frequently associated with congenital heart defects. The most common cardiac diagnoses are supravalve aortic stenosis, supravalve pulmonic stenosis, and arterial hypertension. In contrast, the association of mitral valve prolapse with Williams syndrome is less well defined. We present a case of a 15-year-old girl with Williams syndrome who underwent successful mitral valve repair. Review of the echocardiographic database of our institution over a 10-year period identified 26 other patients with Williams syndrome. Overall, 10 of the 27 children with Williams syndrome had mitral valve disease (37%) including 9 patients with mitral valve prolapse and one with mitral insufficiency. In conclusion, patients with Williams syndrome should be examined for mitral valve disease. Mitral valve repair is feasible and may be considered in the growing child with Williams syndrome.
