ABSTRACT

The purpose of this experiment was to study the effect of sea buckthorn extract (SBE) supplementation on the production performance, serum biochemical indexes, egg quality, and cholesterol deposition of laying ducks. A total of 240 23-week-old laying ducks (female ducks) with similar body weight were randomly divided into four treatment groups with 6 replicates of 10 each. The experimental groups were fed diets supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 g/kg of SBE, respectively. The results showed that the addition of 1.0 g/kg SBE to the diet had significant increase (P < 0.05) in average egg weight and feed conversion ratio. The inclusion of SBE showed the significant improvement (P < 0.05) in yolk weight, shell strength, egg white height and haugh unit. Ducks fed with 1.0 and 1.5 g/kg SBE displayed a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in yolk cholesterol. The significant improvements were observed in the contents of total amino acid essential amino acids, non-essential amino acids, umami amino acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, and docosahexenoic acids of eggs (P < 0.05) when supplemented with SBE. However, the contents of total saturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in eggs showed decrease when ducks fed with SBE diets (P < 0.05). SBE diets may reduce (P < 0.05) the levels of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, while increased (P < 0.05) the levels of serum superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, and glutathione catalase compared to the control. The levels of serum immunoglobulin G, immunoglobulin A and immunoglobulin M were improved in SBE diets (P < 0.05) in comparation to the control. The addition of SBE to diets can improve feed nutrient utilization, increase egg weight, optimaze egg quality and amino acid content in eggs, reduce blood lipids, improve fatty acid profile and yolk cholesterol in eggs, and increase antioxidant capacity and immunity in laying ducks.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: For patients undergoing gastroscopy, it is necessary to judge whether there is Helicobacter pylori infection, atrophy/intestinal metaplasia. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the light color imaging (LCI) and white light imaging (WLI) combined score during gastroscopy. METHODS: Each included patient underwent normalized gastroscopy with WLI and LCI, and all notable findings were photographed. Four endoscopists reviewed the endoscopic images of each patient. The clinical information, results of the H. pylori tests were unavailable at review. The total LCI and WLI scores of each patient were calculated and their detection in high-risk populations of gastric cancer were evaluated. The diagnostic values of LCI and WLI for intestinal metaplasia were also calculated. RESULTS: In total, 392 patients were included in the study. The degree of inflammation and proportion of active inflammation cases were significantly higher in the H. pylori gastritis group than in the non-H. pylori gastritis group; their endoscopic manifestations were also different. The LCI combined score improved the diagnostic value of each individual observation index in the diagnosis of H. pylori infection compared with the WLI combined score. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 91.9% (91.9% vs 81.5%), 91.1% (91.1% vs 80.2%), and 95.8% (95.8% vs 93.2%), respectively. The accuracy of LCI in the diagnosis of intestinal metaplasia was higher than that of WLI (83.4% vs 69.6%). CONCLUSION: The LCI and LCI combined score improved the diagnosis of H. pylori gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, and it is considered valuable in identifying the high-risk population of gastric cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss how to preven wrong absorption of pancreatic pseudocyst using guided transmural drainage under endoscopic ultrasonography. Methods Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients with pancreatic pseudocysts underwent operations of Endoscopic ultrasonography guided transmural drainage. Results 16 cases of pancreatic pseudocysts were finished with guided transmural drainage under endoscopic ultrasonography using needling to place bypass grafting with successful rate 100.0% of guided transmural drainage by needling. After needling, 2 cased happened regurgitation which led to wrongly absorbed, rate of occurrence is 12.5%. Generally, pancreatic pseudocysts of 16 cases disappeared completely with cure rate 100.0%. From above, stents were pulled out by endoscope in 3 cases while stents were removed voluntarily in another 13 cases. Conclusion Dorsal elevated position, detailed operation and esophageal annular tubes can effectively prevent wrong absorption of guided transmural drainage under endoscopic ultrasonography of pancreatic pseudocysts.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the intervention effect of Liangxue Shengji Recipe (LSR) on incidence of post-percutaneous coronary intervention (post-PCI) restenosis and adverse cardiovascular events.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>With a randomized, single-blinded methods adopted, 100 patients with coronary artery disease (CHD) and underwent stent implantation were randomized into two groups, the control group and the treated group, conventional Western treatment was administered to them all, but with LSR to patients in the treated group additionally. They were followed up for at least six months. The incidences of post-PCI restenosis and adverse events, including cardiogenic death, acute myocardial infarction, recurrent angina pectoris, severe heart failure, further intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting, were observed to estimate the effect of LSR.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>No statistically significant difference between the two groups was shown in terms of incidences of intra-stent restenosis, recurrent angina pectoris, estimator of restenosis and its cumulative risk, as well as in reducing the incidence of single adverse event, but did show statistically significant difference between groups in reducing the incidence of united cardiovascular event (P=0.032) and its cumulative risk (P=0.036).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Administration of LSR in post-PCI stage could significantly reduce the probability and cumulative risk of united cardiovascular events, and the beneficial effect presents at about six months post-PCI.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effects of the potential factors, including Chinese herbal decoction, on the long-term prognosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Previous clinical data of 162 patients with AMI were collected, who were followed-up to observe the important events for prognosis, as death and cardio-cerebral episode, and the Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to assess the relative factors.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The degree of cardiac function (by New York grading) increased 1 grade when age increased for 10 years, and the relative hazardous degree (RHD) raised to 1.983 and 3.169. After treatment with Chinese herbal decoction and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), the RHD could be reduced to 0.177 and 0.161 respectively. Taking the important cardio-cerebral events, including death, as the endpoint, when age increased for 10 years, the cardiac function would increase for 1 grade and RHD of endpoint events increased to 2.021 and 1.863, if patients had history of anterior infarction, arrhythmia and diabetes mellitus, it increased to 2.903, 2.588 and 4.039 respectively. Chinese decoction and ACEI treatment could reduce it to 0.093 and 0.141 respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Age, heart failure, anterior infarction, arrhythmia and diabetes mellitus are the hazardous factors of the long-term prognosis of AMI, Chinese herbal decoction and ACEI are the protective factors.</p>
