ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the correlation of plasma deoxycholic acid (DCA) levels with clinical and hemodynamic parameters in acute pulmonary embolism (APE) patients. Total 149 APE adult patients were prospectively recruited. Plasma DCA levels were measured using rapid resolution liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Baseline clinical and hemodynamic parameters were evaluated according to plasma DCA levels. The plasma DCA levels were significantly lower in APE patients than in those without APE (P < 0.001). APE patients with adverse events had lower plasma DCA levels (P < 0.001). Low DCA group patients presented more adverse cardiac function, higher NT-proBNP levels (P = 0.010), and higher WHO functional class levels (P = 0.023). Low DCA group also presented with an adverse hemodynamic status, with higher pulmonary vascular resistance levels (P = 0.027) and lower cardiac index levels (P = 0.024). Both cardiac function and hemodynamic parameters correlated well with plasma DCA levels. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated that APE patients with lower plasma DCA levels had a significantly higher event rate (P = 0.009). In the univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, the plasma DCA level was an independent predictor of clinical worsening events after adjusting for age, sex, WHO functional class, NT-proBNP level, pulmonary vascular resistance, and cardiac index (HR 0.370, 95% CI 0.161, 0.852; P = 0.019). Low plasma DCA levels predicted adverse cardiac function and hemodynamic collapse. A low DCA level was correlated with a higher clinical worsening event rate and could be an independent predictor of clinical outcomes in multivariate analysis.

ABSTRACT

Understanding water absorption mechanisms of sand-fixing plants is important for the rational establishment of plant community structures, thereby providing a scientific basis for desertification control and the efficient utilization of water resources in sandy areas. Based on the hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of precipi-tation, soil water, xylem water, and groundwater, coupled with soil water-heat dynamics, annual water consumption characteristics of vegetation, using the multi-source linear mixing model (IsoSource), we analyzed the differences in water sources between Salix psammophila and Artemisia ordosica, during winter and the growing season. We further examined the effects of groundwater depth (2 m and 10 m), soil freezing-thawing, and drought on their water utilization to elucidate water absorption mechanisms of those species. The results showed that: 1) During soil freezing-thawing period (January to March), S. psammophila mainly utilized soil water in 60-120 cm depths below the frozen layer (69.1%). In the green-up season (April and May), soil water from the 0-60 cm layers could satisfy the water demand of S. psammophila (30.9%-87.6%). During the dry period of the growing season (June), it predominantly utilized soil water at the depth of 120-160 cm (27.4%-40.8%). Over the rainy season (July and September), soil water in 0-60 cm depths provided 59.8%-67.9% of the total water required. A. ordosica, with shallow roots, could not utilize soil water after complete freezing of root zone but could overwinter by storing water in rhizomes during autumn. During the growing season, it primarily relied on 0-40 cm soil layer (23.4%-86.8%). During the dry period, it mainly utilized soil water from 40-80 cm and 80-160 cm soil layers, with utilization rates of 14.6%-74.4% and 21.8%-78.2%, respectively. 2) With decreasing groundwater depth, vegetation shifted its water absorption depth upward, with water source of S. psammophila transitioning from 120-160 cm to 60-160 cm layers, while A. ordosica shifted water absorption depth from 80-160 cm to 0-40 cm. S. psammophila's utilization of soil water is influenced by transpiration, adopting an "on-demand" approach to achieve a balance between water supply and energy conservation, whereas A. ordosica tends to utilize shallow soil water, exhibiting a higher depen-dence on water sources from a single soil layer.

ABSTRACT

Electrophoresis is the motion of particles relative to a surrounding fluid driven by a uniform electric field. In conventional electrophoresis, the electrophoretic velocity grows linearly with the applied field. Nonlinear effects with a quadratic speed vs field dependence are gaining research interest since an alternating current field could drive them. Here, we report on the giant nonlinearity of electrophoresis in a nematic liquid crystal in which the speed grows with the fourth and sixth powers of the electric field. The mechanism is attributed to the shear thinning of the nematic environment induced by the moving colloid. The observed giant nonlinear effect dramatically enhances the efficiency of electrophoretic transport.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a liquid crystal (LC) tunable origami metastructure (OMS) designed for curvature sensing on cylindrical surfaces to measure their curvature is introduced. The LC employed is K15 (5CB) and the applicable band is 0.36∼23 GHz. When excited by electromagnetic waves (EMWs) within the 4∼16 GHz, the resonance frequency of the OMS shifts from 10.24 GHz to 10.144 GHz, corresponding to a change in absorption amplitude ranging from 0.773 to 0.920. In terms of curvature sensing, the detectable range of curvature spans from 0 to 0.327 mm-1. The maximum sensitivity (S) achieved for curvature measurement reaches 0.918/mm-1, accompanied by a quality factor (Q-factor) of 25.88. The proposed OMS embodies numerous excellent traits, including wide-range sensing capabilities and heightened S, promising for applications in bionic skin, smart robotics, and related fields.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Psychological distress is common among patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and has considerable adverse impacts on disease progression and health outcomes. Mindfulness-based intervention is a promising complementary approach to address patients' psychological needs and promote holistic well-being. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the effects of a social media-based mindfulness psycho-behavioral intervention (MCARE) on psychological distress, psychological stress, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and cardiovascular risk factors among patients with ACS. METHODS: This study was a 2-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial. We recruited 178 patients (mean age 58.7, SD 8.9 years; 122/178, 68.5% male) with ACS at 2 tertiary hospitals in Jinan, China. Participants were randomly assigned to the MCARE group (n=89) or control group (n=89). The 6-week intervention consisted of 1 face-to-face session (phase I) and 5 weekly WeChat (Tencent Holdings Ltd)-delivered sessions (phase II) on mindfulness training and health education and lifestyle modification. The primary outcomes were depression and anxiety. Secondary outcomes included psychological stress, HRQoL, and cardiovascular risk factors (ie, smoking status, physical activity, dietary behavior, BMI, blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood glucose). Outcomes were measured at baseline (T0), immediately after the intervention (T1), and 12 weeks after the commencement of the intervention (T2). RESULTS: The MCARE group showed significantly greater reductions in depression (T1: ß=-2.016, 95% CI -2.584 to -1.449, Cohen d=-1.28, P<.001; T2: ß=-2.089, 95% CI -2.777 to -1.402, Cohen d=-1.12, P<.001) and anxiety (T1: ß=-1.024, 95% CI -1.551 to -0.497, Cohen d=-0.83, P<.001; T2: ß=-0.932, 95% CI -1.519 to -0.346, Cohen d=-0.70, P=.002). Significantly greater improvements were also observed in psychological stress (ß=-1.186, 95% CI -1.678 to -0.694, Cohen d=-1.41, P<.001), physical HRQoL (ß=0.088, 95% CI 0.008-0.167, Cohen d=0.72, P=.03), emotional HRQoL (ß=0.294, 95% CI 0.169-0.419, Cohen d=0.81, P<.001), and general HRQoL (ß=0.147, 95% CI 0.070-0.224, Cohen d=1.07) at T1, as well as dietary behavior (ß=0.069, 95% CI 0.003-0.136, Cohen d=0.75, P=.04), physical activity level (ß=177.542, 95% CI -39.073 to 316.011, Cohen d=0.51, P=.01), and systolic blood pressure (ß=-3.326, 95% CI -5.928 to -0.725, Cohen d=-1.32, P=.01) at T2. The overall completion rate of the intervention (completing ≥5 sessions) was 76% (68/89). Positive responses to the questions of the acceptability questionnaire ranged from 93% (76/82) to 100% (82/82). CONCLUSIONS: The MCARE program generated favorable effects on psychological distress, psychological stress, HRQoL, and several aspects of cardiovascular risk factors in patients with ACS. This study provides clues for guiding clinical practice in the recognition and management of psychological distress and integrating the intervention into routine rehabilitation practice. ABSTRACT

AIMS: Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) often experience reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL), which may be attributable to the disease severity and psychological stress. While illness perception is speculated to be a potential pathway underlying these relationships, evidence supporting this mechanism remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between disease severity, psychological stress, and HRQOL and whether these relationships are mediated by illness perception in patients with ACS. METHODS AND RESULTS: Data were collected from June to July 2019 and June to September 2020 in the cardiology departments of four public hospitals in China. Eligible patients completed measures of disease severity, psychological stress, illness perception, HRQOL, and sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Data were analyzed employing hierarchical multiple regression and structural equation modeling. This study included 405 participants (mean age 60.63 years, 67.4% male). After controlling for sociodemographic and clinical covariates, higher levels of disease severity (ß=0.115, P=0.024) and psychological stress (ß=-0.209, P<0.001) were associated with poorer HRQOL; however, the relationships became non-significant after adding illness perception into the regression model. Structural equation modeling analysis suggested that illness perception played a mediating role between disease severity, psychological stress, and HRQOL, accounting for 45.95% and 65.79% of the total effects, respectively. CONCLUSION: This study found that illness perception mediated the relationships between disease severity, psychological stress, and HRQOL among patients with ACS. Improving patients' HRQOL should consider its important influencing factors with a focus on promoting positive illness perception.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a major public health issue. Family factors are significantly associated with NSSI in adolescents, while studies on forecasting NSSI at the family level are still limited. In addition to regression methods, machine learning (ML) techniques have been recommended to improve the accuracy of family-level risk prediction for NSSI. METHODS: Using a dataset of 7967 students and their primary caregivers from a cross-sectional study, logistic regression model and random forest model were used to test the forecasting accuracy of NSSI predictions at the family level. Cross-validation was used to assess model prediction performance, including the area under the receiver operator curve (AUC), precision, Brier score, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value. RESULTS: The top three important family-related predictors within the random forest algorithm included family function (importance:42.66), family conflict (importance:42.18), and parental depression (importance:27.21). The most significant family-related risk predictors and protective predictors identified by the logistic regression model were family history of mental illness (OR:2.25) and help-seeking behaviors of mental distress from parents (OR:0.65), respectively. The AUCs of the two models, logistic regression and random forest, were 0.852 and 0.835, respectively. LIMITATIONS: The key limitation is that this cross-sectional survey only enabled the authors to examine predictors that were considered to be proximal rather than distal. CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight the significance of family-related factors in forecasting NSSI in adolescents. Combining both conventional statistical methods and ML methods to improve risk assessment of NSSI at the family level deserves attention.

ABSTRACT

Achieving circularly polarized organic ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence (CP-OURTP) with a high luminescent dissymmetry factor (glum ) is crucial for diverse optoelectronic applications. In particular, dynamically controlling the dissymmetry factor of CP-OURTP can profoundly advance these applications, but it is still unprecedented. This study introduces an effective strategy to achieve photoirradiation-driven chirality regulation in a bilayered structure film, which consists of a layer of soft helical superstructure incorporated with a light-driven molecular motor and a layer of room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) polymer. The prepared bilayered film exhibits CP-OURTP with an emission lifetime of 805 ms and a glum value up to 1.38. Remarkably, the glum value of the resulting CP-OURTP film can be reversibly controlled between 0.6 and 1.38 over 20 cycles by light irradiation, representing the first example of dynamically controlling the glum in CP-OURTP.

BACKGROUND: Virtual simulation and face-to-face simulation are effective for clinical judgment training. Rare studies have tried to improve clinical judgment ability by applying virtual simulation and face-to-face simulation together. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of an integrated non-immersive virtual simulation and high-fidelity face-to-face simulation program on enhancing nursing students' clinical judgment ability and understanding of nursing students' experiences of the combined simulation. METHODS: A sequential exploratory mixed-methods study was conducted in a nursing simulation center of a university in Central China. Third-year nursing students (n = 122) taking clinical training in ICUs were subsequentially assigned to the integrated non-immersive virtual simulation and high-fidelity face-to-face simulation program arm (n = 61) or the face-to-face simulation-only arm (n = 61) according to the order in which they entered in ICU training. Clinical judgment ability was measured by the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric (LCJR). Focus group interviews were conducted to gather qualitative data. RESULTS: Students in both arms demonstrated significant improvement in clinical judgment ability scores after simulation, and students in the integrated arm reported more improvement than students in the face-to-face simulation-only arm. The qualitative quotes provided a context for the quantitative improvement measured by the LJCR in the integrated arm. Most of the quantitative findings were confirmed by qualitative findings, including the domains and items in the LJCR. The findings verified and favored the effect of the combination of non-immersive virtual simulation and high-fidelity face-to-face simulation integrated program on enhancing nursing students' clinical judgment ability. CONCLUSIONS: The integrated virtual simulation and face-to-face simulation program was feasible and enhanced nursing students' self-reported clinical judgment ability. This integrated non-immersive virtual simulation and high-fidelity face-to-face simulation program may benefit nursing students and newly graduated nurses in the ICU more than face-to-face simulation only.

ABSTRACT

Long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of organic materials holds a significant potential for optical information. Circularly polarized organic ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence (CP-OURTP) with extremely high dissymmetry factor (glum ) values is even highly demanded and considerably challenging. Here, an effective strategy is introduced to realize CP-OURTP with an emission decay time of 735 ms and a glum value up to 1.49, which exceeds two orders of magnitude larger than previous records, through a system composed of RTP polymers and chiral helical superstructures. The system exhibits excellent stability under multiple cycles of photoirradiation and thermal treatment, and is further employed for information encryption based on optical multiplexing. The results are anticipated to lay the foundation for the development of CP-OURTP materials in advanced photonic applications.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Many people with mental disorders are cared for by informed caregivers, but they usually have limited care-related training and lack caregiving capacity and support networks. In order to provide professional training and social support for informed caregivers, we designed the Caregivers-to-Caregivers Training Programme (C2C) and performed a pilot study to assess its effect. METHODS: Caregivers of persons with mental disorders who participated in the C2C were asked to participate in a quasi-experimental study to assess their knowledge and skills development, self-care ability, trainer engagement, and training content. A total of 800 participants completed self-designed evaluation questionnaires and two open-ended questions to gather suggestions and feedback. Assessments were carried out at pretest (baseline), post-test, and at 2-month follow-up. Results were analyzed using one-way repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and pairwise comparison method. RESULTS: At post-test, 667 assessments were considered valid and 515 were deemed valid at 2-month follow-up. One-way repeated-measures ANOVA showed that the main effect of the scores on knowledge and skills development and self-care ability from baseline to 2-month follow-up was significant (p < .001). Results of pairwise comparison method showed that the scores on each item of knowledge and skills development and self-care ability at post-test and at 2-month follow up were higher than those at baseline (p < .001). The scores on items of trainer engagement and training content were all above average (4/5). The open-ended questions resulted in 678 comments indicating that participants gained significant support from other caregivers and healthcare professionals in the alliance and wanted more and continuously updated material. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that C2C effectively improved the development of caregivers' knowledge, skills, and their self-care ability. Available social support for caregivers was better than average, including professional support and peer support.

ABSTRACT

The ever-growing need to inspect matter with hyperfine structures requires a revolution in current scintillation detectors, and the innovation of scintillators is revived with luminescent metal halides entering the scene. Notably, for any scintillator, two fundamental issues arise: Which kind of material is suitable and in what form should the material exist? The answer to the former question involves the sequence of certain atoms into specific crystal structures that facilitate the conversion of X-ray into light, whereas the answer to the latter involves assembling these crystallites into particular material forms that can guide light propagation toward its corresponding pixel detector. Despite their equal importance, efforts are overwhelmingly devoted to improving the X-ray-to-light conversion, while the material-form-associated light propagation, which determines the optical signal collected for X-ray imaging, is largely overlooked. This perspective critically correlates the reported spatial resolution with the light-propagation behavior in each form of metal halides, combing the designing rules for their future development.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is effective in treating various neurological and psychiatric diseases. It improves anxiety symptoms in children with autism spectrum disorder, gaining considerable empirical support. However, social skills results are mixed, leading to debate over its effectiveness, highlighting the need for further development. While the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) is a secondary indicator to measure anxiety symptoms, it primarily evaluates social skills, which are essential for rehabilitating children with autism. Therefore, evaluating social disorder improvement in children with autism is imperative. Social impairment is a core autism symptom. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review of randomised controlled trials assessing the effects of CBT on social skills in this population. METHODS: We reviewed articles published in several databases through October 2022 and relevant reference lists. We used the standardised mean difference (SMD) as the main effect size indicator and focused on SRS metrics from baseline to endpoint. We analysed subgroups, heterogeneity, bias risk, and publication bias. RESULTS: Our meta-analysis included 214 children from seven randomised controlled trials with nine datasets. Forest plot analysis shows CBT improved social skills in children with autism compared to controls. Subgroup analysis revealed parents' and teachers' SRS scores for children, SRS scores of CBT versus waitlist controls, and those of CBT versus non-waiting-list controls. LIMITATIONS: Most randomised controlled CBT trials for children with autism have explored anxiety symptom improvement. Further, social skill assessment was a secondary outcome or not assessed. Thus, social skills data are insufficient. CONCLUSIONS: CBT is effective in improving social impairment in children with autism. ABSTRACT

Purpose: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is related to childhood trauma, negative life events, and coping style, but the interaction among these factors and the mechanism by which they interact in adolescents with depressive disorder remain unclear. This paper explores how these factors interact to influence NSSI and provides evidence to develop prevention efforts and interventions for adolescents with depressive disorder with NSSI. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional design and convenient sampling method were used in this study. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Checklist, Trait Coping Style Questionnaire, and Adolescent Nonsuicidal Self-injury Assessment Questionnaire were completed by 540 adolescents with depressive disorder. Descriptive analysis, chi-square tests, t-tests, Pearson correlations, and serial mediation analyses were used in the data analysis. Results: A total of 398 (79.442%) adolescents with depressive disorders reported experiences of NSSI. The results of serial mediation analyses determined that childhood trauma has a direct (estimate = 0.209, 95% CI: 0.063, 0.334) and indirect (estimate = 0.271, 95% CI: 0.199, 0.371) impact on NSSI. The indirect impact of childhood trauma on NSSI through negative life events alone (estimate = 0.096, 95% CI: 0.007, 0.169), coping styles alone (estimate = 0.088, 95% CI: 0.034, 0.183), and negative life events on coping styles (estimate = 0.086, 95% CI: 0.042, 0.162) was significant. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that screening for childhood trauma should be considered when preventing and treating NSSI behavior in adolescents with depressive disorder. Managing negative life events and coping style may mitigate the negative impact of childhood trauma on NSSI behavior in adolescents with depressive disorder.

We investigated understory fuel loads of Quercus mongolica natural secondary forests in Hebei Province, China. We analyzed the effects of stand factors, topographic factors, and ground cover factors on the quantity and composition of fuel, established the dynamic models of understory fuel loads, and proposed management measures. The results showed that the understory total fuel load in Q. mongolica natural secondary forests was 11.68 t·hm-2, which exceeded the forest fire potential threshold (10 t·hm-2). The understory dead fuel load was mainly humus, and the understory living fuel load was mainly shrubs. The 1 h time-lag fuel load increased significantly with increasing canopy density, stand density, stand age, and litter thickness. The 10 h time-lag fuel load increased signi-ficantly with increasing stand density, average tree height, and litter thickness. Humus load decreased significantly with increasing altitude and increased significantly with increasing humus thickness. Herb load increased significantly with increasing sunny slope orientation and herbal coverage. Shrub load increased significantly with increasing slope degree, shrub coverage, and humus thickness. Understory total fuel load decreased significantly with increasing altitude, and increased significantly with increasing stand density, humus thickness, and litter thickness. The results of stepwise regression analysis indicated that stand density, humus thickness, and altitude could better predict the understory total fuel load (Radj2=0.775). Therefore, more attention should be paid on the control of stand density of Q. mongolica natural secondary forest in Hebei Province. Cleaning of litters and humus on the ground would help prevent forest fires scientifically and effectively.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Due to the increasing burden of life-limiting illnesses, the need for palliative care has increased. Nurses' palliative care competence is a vital factor in improving its accessibility. A reliable instrument is needed to measure nurses' competence in providing palliative care. OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to translate and culturally adapt the Palliative Care Nursing Self-Competence Scale (PCNSC) into the Palliative Care Nursing Self-Competence Scale-Simplified Chinese (PCNSC-SC). METHODS: Two cross-sectional studies were conducted after content validity had been confirmed during the instrument's translation and adaption. The convergent validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and homogeneity were evaluated in both the first and second studies. Test-retest reliability was assessed only in the first study. Clinical nurses who had a registered nurse qualification certificate and at least 12 months of work experience from a tertiary hospital in Hubei, China participated in the 2 studies. RESULTS: The PCNSC-SC contains 8 dimensions and 34 items, based on goodness-of-fit indices and confirmatory factor analysis. The Cronbach's alpha of the PCNSC-SC was .984 and .990 in the 2 studies, respectively. The test-retest reliability of the PCNSC-SC after 2 weeks was .717. CONCLUSION: The PCNSC-SC can be used to evaluate perceived self-competence in palliative care of Chinese nurses with good reliability and validity.

BACKGROUND: People frequently experience physical and psychological challenges (e.g., depression and anxiety) and high risk of poor prognosis after an acute coronary event. Mindfulness-based intervention holds promise as an effective approach to promoting health and well-being. OBJECTIVES: To explore the feasibility, acceptability, and potential effects on psychological distress, cardiovascular risk factors and health-related quality of life of a mindfulness-oriented psycho-behavioral intervention for patients with acute coronary syndrome. METHODS: We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial to test the feasibility, acceptability and potential effects of the intervention in 50 patients with acute coronary syndrome. The intervention included six weekly sessions, including one face-to-face session and five WeChat-delivered sessions that incorporated mindfulness training with health education and lifestyle modification. Eligible patients were recruited in two public hospitals in China and randomly allocated into the intervention group (n = 25) or control group (n = 25). RESULTS: Intervention feasibility was supported by a relatively high recruitment rate (66.7%) and retention rate (84%) and a smooth and brief data collection procedure (15 to 25 min) of the pilot study. Positive responses of the acceptability dichotomous scale ranged from 81% to 100%, suggesting the intervention was generally acceptable. The intervention had a significant group × time effect on dietary behavior (B = 0.31,95% CI: 0.08, 0.54, P = 0.008) with an effect size (Cohen's d) of -0.72. CONCLUSIONS: The mindfulness-oriented psycho-behavioral intervention appears to be feasible and acceptable and have a promising effect on dietary behavior in patients with acute coronary syndrome. A fully powered randomized controlled trial is warranted to further assess the efficacy of the intervention. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, No., ChiCTR2000033526.

ABSTRACT

Morphogenesis of living systems involves topological shape transformations which are highly unusual in the inanimate world. Here, we demonstrate that a droplet of a nematic liquid crystal changes its equilibrium shape from a simply connected tactoid, which is topologically equivalent to a sphere, to a torus, which is not simply connected. The topological shape transformation is caused by the interplay of nematic elastic constants, which facilitates splay and bend of molecular orientations in tactoids but hinders splay in the toroids. The elastic anisotropy mechanism might be helpful in understanding topology transformations in morphogenesis and paves the way to control and transform shapes of droplets of liquid crystals and related soft materials.

ABSTRACT

Background: A history of self-harm behaviors is closely associated with subsequent suicide death. Although many factors associated with suicide have been identified, it remains unclear how these factors interact to influence suicide risk, especially among teenagers with a history of self-harm behaviors. Methods: Data were collected from 913 teenagers with a history of self-harm behaviors through a cross-sectional study. The Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, and Resolve index was used to assess teenagers' family function. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 were used to evaluate depression and anxiety in teenagers and their parents, respectively. The Delighted Terrible Faces Scale was used to assess teenagers' perception of subjective wellbeing. The Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised was used to evaluate teenagers' suicide risk. Student's t-test, one-way ANOVA, multivariate linear regression, Pearson's correlation, and a structural equation model (SEM) were applied to data analysis. Results: Overall, 78.6% of teenagers with a history of self-harm behaviors were at risk for possible suicide. Female gender, severity of teenagers' depression, family function, and subjective wellbeing were significantly associated with suicide risk. The results of SEM suggested that there was a significant chain mediation effect of subjective wellbeing and depression between family function and suicide risk. Conclusion: Family function was closely associated with suicide risk in teenagers with a history of self-harm behaviors, and depression and subjective wellbeing were sequential mediators in the association between family function and suicide risk.
