ABSTRACT

The content of fluorine in deciduous and permanent teeth of young people was determined by x-ray microanalysis. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the concentrations of F in teeth without any supplementation of fluorides and to elaborate basic dates as a standard of comparison. F was measured in microvolumes with a wavelength-dispersive spectrometer (Step-Scan 100 sec) after coating with about 300 A of Carbon. The highest values were established in the outermost surface of enamel with quantities between 300 and 600 micrograms/g. The lower concentrations were found in deciduouns teeth. In both dentitions the F-content increases at the surface following the permanent change between de- and remineralization. In subsurface areas the values are decreasing quickly. At a deep of 10 microns from surface layer the content is only 70 micrograms/g and than it declines to a minimum of 20-30 micrograms/g.

ABSTRACT

The tertiary maturation of the erupting tooth needs much more time than it is supposed in literature. Possibly the completion is in accord with the decline of the caries activity at the end of the second decade of lifetime. With the aid of polarizing microscopy, electron microprobe, microhardness testing (Vickers) and scanning electron microscopy different stages of posteruptive maturation from human and other mammalian teeth were analysed. The mineralization level in the outer surface of human enamel is completing little by little in more than 5 years after eruption. This state is in the ruminant tooth obvious never within reach in consequence of the specific physiological conditions. The maturating mineralization after our preliminary findings is fundamentally different to remineralization.

ABSTRACT

Within a clinical examination the Gamma-2-containing Amalgam "Dentargam", the Gamma-2-reduced "Germadent" and the Gamma-2-free alloy "Duragam" are tested by an intraoral comparison of tooth-paars. A superiority of the alloys with reduced Gamma-2-phases was found.

ABSTRACT

187 students were examined an epidemiological study for their dental conditions and requirements with respect to preservation and prosthetics. The persons tested showed a DMF-T index of 11.6 and a DMF-S index of 24.2 in the lateral tooth area. In our opinion the clinical investigation revealed that the total number of caries cases will rise three-fold due to the above-average frequency of secondary caries cases as the filling size (or the number of filling surfaces) increases. The amount of single crown dentures found in the lateral tooth area with 0.1 crowns per person tested turned out to be fairly low. The actual need for a tooth-preserving therapy concept by crowning in preference to the concept of filling therapy amounts to the twelve-fold of the existing single crown dentures.

ABSTRACT

In the framework of a study involving both experimental and clinical tests, two preliminary tests were made to measure and compare the edge lengths of crowns and inlays and the substance losses after tangential and circular stage-type preparations. As revealed by the results, both the three-face and two-face cast fillings in the lateral tooth area have a longer restoration edge than corresponding cast crowns. The weight loss after crown preparations involving a circular stage is greater by one third than after a tangential preparation. In this context, ways of properly using restorative means of therapy in clinical dentistry are discussed.

ABSTRACT

92 root canal fillings were performed using single guttapercha point with sealer (chloropercha) and lateral condensation of gutta-percha. Neither with single point nor with lateral condensation methods it is possible to achieve advantages in clinical or radiographic success. Nevertheless, the lateral condensation of gutta-percha is a suitable method for beginners to learn the complicated technique of root canal obturation.

ABSTRACT

Medical evidence on the extension and progression tendency of caries and periodontal diseases have been made by OHI/S, DMF/T-index as well as CPITN with the help of 555 apprentices at the beginning of their vocational training. Shortly before finishing their apprenticeship 415 of then had been examined again in the course of which had to be find out how their teeth-formation had worsened according to periodic examination within 18 month. The results show a clear deterioration of the oral state of health, but evidently indicate that corrections can be gained by continuous care, prevention and early diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

The most striking feature of some industrialized countries is a dramatic reduction of the prevalence of dental caries among school-aged children. As a result, teeth are being retained longer than before and it is possible that the incidence of caries--especially root caries--is increasing. It is an error of judgement that dentistry becomes simplier. With the increase of life span there will be an increase of needs for restorative dentistry in the older age groups of the population. The dentist of the future has to be a flexible practitioner who has had a broader based education.
