[Bone density in axial and peripheral skeleton and mineral density of the entire body as an age dependent factor in a population sample of healthy women]. / Gestosc masy kostnej w szkielecie osiowym i obwodowym oraz gestosc mineralna calego ciala w zaleznosci od wieku w próbce populacyjnej zdrowych kobiet.

Bone mineral density has been measured with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in both axial and peripheral skeleton of 208 randomly selected healthy women aged between 20 and 80 years. Examined women have been stratified into the age groups of every 10 years. Bone mineral density has been measured in lumbar spine L2-L4 (AP), L2-L3 (Lat.) and proximal femur together with total body mineral density in every examined woman. The obtained results are considered reference values for the Polish population.

[A case of thrombosis of the portal vein treated conservatively]. / Przypadek zakrzepicy zyly wrotnej leczonej zachowawczo.

Portal vein thrombosis is a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem. The predominating clinical sign of isolated portal vein thrombosis is usually a haemorrhage from oesophageal varices. A case is presented of portal vein thrombosis without the above mentioned sign, treated conservatively with good effect. The importance is worth stressing of abdominal USG examination in early diagnosis of the described disease.

The effect of internal iliac artery embolization of the prostatic gland in the dog.

Investigations were carried out on dogs in order to study the changes in the prostatic gland after embolization of the internal iliac arteries. The experiments showed that slight fine-celled infiltrations occurred in the interstitial tissue as a result of ischaemia of that organ. The authors are of the opinion that embolization of the internal iliac arteries may be used in clinical practice as a method of treating haemorrhages from the prostatic gland.

[Usefulness of "Chirurcoll-Polfa" tissue adhesives for increase of resistance against distention of bladder wounds in rabbits]. / Próba wykorzystania kleju do tkanek "Chirurcoll-Polfa" w celu zwiekszenia wytrzymalosci na rozciaganie rany pecherza moczowego u królików.

The usefulness of the polish tissue adhesive "Chirurcoll-Polfa" for the increase of the bladder wound resistance against distention was investigated on 24 rabbits. The measurements were performed after 3, 7, 10 and 14 days, applying a water manometer. The results proved a distinctly increased resistance against distention of the bladder wounds in the experimental group during the first week. In the latter period of time there were no differences observed between the control and the experimental group.
