[The role of mass morphological study of placenta for prognosis of infectious processes in newborns]. / Rol' massovykh morfologicheskikh issledovanii posledov dlia prognozirovaniia proiavlenii infektsionnykh protsessov u novorozhdennykh.

The results of the long-term morphological study of a great number of placentas in the cities of St. Petersburg and Novgorod have been summarized. These results show frequent occurrence of infection of various etiology. The efficiency of revealing the risk groups among newborns is documented by a considerable decrease of infant mortality in Novgorod (from 20.6 in 1986 to 11.9 in 1996). The same phenomenon is demonstrated in St. Petersburg where a decrease in the incidence of intrauterine infections was noted at the autopsy material. A detailed study of catamnesis of children infected in utero showed an increase of minor neurological symptoms and higher incidence of acute respiratory viral infections.

[Noradrenaline and adrenaline concentration in the myocardium of persons who have died suddenly or from injuries]. / Soderzhanie noradrenalina i adrenalina v miokarde liudei, pogibshikh ot travmy i vnezapno.

To investigate mechanisms of sudden death the authors determined the content of noradrenaline and adrenaline in the myocardium of different heart sections in deceased persons by the fluorimetric method; similar studies of the myocardium of persons who died of trauma were conducted. Heterotopia in the noradrenaline content between the cardiac chambers proved to be considerably more pronounced in sudden death than in fatal trauma. The differences in the adrenaline and noradrenaline content in the heart chambers of persons who died of trauma and suddenly indicated the death mechanisms to be different in these cases.
