ABSTRACT

316 children aged 3 months-14 years suspected of tuberculosis were hospitalized since 1 Jan. 1990 until 31 Dec. 1993 in the Lung and Tuberculosis Hospital in Warsaw province at Otwock. In 168 patients lung tuberculosis and in 15 cases-extrapulmonary tuberculosis was recognized. Strongly positive tuberculin skin test as a single sign was observed in 134 patients. 182 children with recognised tuberculosis were treated with antituberculous drugs, and in 132 children chemoprophylaxis (INH) was applied. Tuberculosis of tracheo-bronchial lymph nodes was the most frequent form. In the examined group 90 per cent of children suffering from this form of tuberculosis had no clinical symptoms prior to the diagnosis.
