ABSTRACT

In the Maghreb, rites of protection are performed to prevent or compensate for any threats to which newborns are exposed as a result of their birth. The passage from one world to another is therefore accompanied by rituals, real vectors of socialisation, values and knowledge. They are important therapeutic levers in the context of transcultural psychotherapy, in order to reappropriate a containing and mixed cultural sheath.

ABSTRACT

The refusal of treatment is frequent in human immunodeficiency virus-positive adolescents. The clinical history of a teenage girl presenting severe immunodepression secondary to the virus, a depressive disorder and a refusal of treatment, illustrates the benefit of combined paediatric, child psychiatric and cross-cultural care as proposed by the Cochin-Paris Adolescent Centre. Working on the meaning of the refusal was a prerequisite for the construction of a care project forming part of a life project, as the psychopathological work could only begin once somatic care ensuring the patient's protection was in place.

ABSTRACT

Through the stories and drawings of children in a medical-psychological centre, it is possible to explore their psychological representations of the terrorist attacks which took place in Paris in January 2015. This work highlights the need to rethink the methods of care provided to these children in order to adapt them to their specific needs.

ABSTRACT

The transcultural consultation is a form of group therapy which is aimed at families from other countries, using a method which enables children, through drawing, to express themselves in a group. The favoured means of communication for children, drawing is an effective way of liberatingthoughts and giving meaning to family history. Incorporated into the overall narrative, it can thereby be a form of mediation, on condition that it is integrated into the therapeutic programme. This article reflects on the characteristics of the drawings produced by these children who have different cultures and different ways of drawing.

ABSTRACT

Cross-cultural consultations for adolescents are part of the creative, multi-disciplinary approach that their complex clinical context requires. For youth who have suffered a traumatic event, this psychotherapeutic work is restorative and reassuring. It provides support required to stimulate the mental processes of often stunned youth in psychological distress who have been isolated from their families and cultures.
