ABSTRACT

We report a case of simple renal cyst rupture resulting from blunt trauma. The injury was detected on computed tomographic scanning. The patient was treated conservatively and CT scan one month later demonstrated resolution of the cystic rupture.

ABSTRACT

Various catheter techniques guided with fluoroscopy and ultrasound (US) have been developed to assist conception by opening fallopian tubes. The authors present a simplified US-guided technique with which they were able to catheterize a fallopian tube consistently and rapidly in 15 of 17 attempts by using a prototype catheter system that is in general use for sperm or embryo transfer.

ABSTRACT

Seventeen cases of intrauterine fluid collections in postmenopausal women demonstrated by sonography were collected. Of the 17, 16 (94%) were found to have active carcinoma involving the uterine corpus or cervix. Eleven (65%) had cervical stenosis due to previous surgery, radiation therapy, or carcinoma. The fluid collected was pus, blood, or serous or serosanguineous fluid, and tumor nearly filled the dilated uterine cavity in some cases. The sonographic demonstration of a distended uterine cavity in a postmenopausal woman suggests carcinoma involving the uterus.

ABSTRACT

Two cases demonstrating the computed tomographic appearance of azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava (IVC) are presented. One is associated with a retroaortic left renal vein and the other with a duplicated IVC. An enlarged azygos vein should not be confused with retrocrural lymphadenopathy or a mediastinal mass. It is a tubular structure extending from the diaphragm to the azygos arch, which together with the aorta forms a characteristic collar around the trachea. It enhances intensely after intravenous injection of contrast material.
